Close Encounters Of Pitlochry Kind

Close Encounters Of Pitlochry Kind
UK Photograph Shows UFO next to RAF jet!

"Photographs taken of a UFO hovering next to an RAF jet over Scotland were treated very seriously by military investigators, newly-released Ministry of Defence files showed today. "

Witnesses saw the mysterious large diamond-shaped object hanging in the air for about 10 minutes before it ascended vertically at high speed.

Military experts concluded the aircraft was a Harrier, but could not identify the UFO despite apparently commissioning detailed line drawings of it.

Fearing there could be significant media interest, the MoD took the unusual step of briefing ministers about the sighting.

The incident also discloses that British military intelligence officers tasked with investigating UFO reports took a close interest in claims the US was developing a top secret spy-plane.

The sighting is included in military UFO documents made available online today by the National Archives.

The seven files, produced by the DI55 branch of the Defence Intelligence Staff, relate to the period between November 1987 and April 1993 and contain details of around 1,200 separate UFO sightings.

They demonstrate that British officials were more concerned about advanced new aircraft being developed by the Russians and Americans than little green men.

The files include numerous cuttings from magazines and newspapers relating to rumours that the US military was developing a hypersonic spy-plane known as Aurora.

Attached to one article about Aurora from September 1991 was a note from an MoD official that read: "Attention is really focusing on this now, notwithstanding a recent USAF 'denial briefing'.

"This is bound to prompt further questions/Parliamentary interest."

There is also an intelligence report quoting an October 1991 sighting in Kazakhstan of a UFO with "a semi-transparent halo and rays 'shooting out' in different directions".

Other incidents recorded in the files include:

* A woman who said she was approached by an alien with a "Scandinavian-type accent" as she walked her dog near Norwich in November 1989;
* A spate of UFO sightings in London in 1993 which were explained by the presence of a brightly illuminated airship advertising the new Ford Mondeo;
* A sighting by crews of six RAF Tornado jets of a UFO over Germany in November 1990 which they believed to be a stealth aircraft;
* A recommendation that the Royal Ulster Constabulary should investigate a missile-shaped UFO, accompanied by a "muffled bang", reported near Belfast Airport in December 1989;
* Details of how the crash of a USAF pilot into the North Sea in September 1970 made headlines again in 1992 over claims that he was on an operation to intercept UFOs;
* The MoD's decision to halt a project to computerise UFO records amid concerns about public reaction if it became known.

But the British military officials appear to have paid most attention to the sighting of the diamond-shaped object next to the RAF Harrier on the A9 at Calvine, north of Pitlochry in Scotland, on August 4 1990.

Two members of the public took colour photos and provided them to Scotland's"Daily Record" newspaper, which in turn passed six negatives to the MoD for comment.

The military responded by drawing up guidelines for responding to media questions about the incident.

An official wrote in a memo: "Such stories are not normally drawn to the attention of ministers, and the MoD press office invariably responds to questions along well-established lines emphasising our limited interest in the UFO phenomenon and explaining that we therefore do not have the resources to undertake any in-depth investigations into particular sightings.

"On this occasion, however, the MoD has been provided with six photographic negatives of an alleged UFO by the Scottish "Daily Record "and has been asked for comments almost certainly for inclusion in a forthcoming story."

The memo noted there was no record of Harriers operating in the area at the time and suggested the media should be told "no definite conclusions (were) reached regarding (the) large diamond-shaped object".

The files contain blurry photocopies of two of the pictures next to aviation journal reports about a secret triangular-shaped stealth aircraft said to have been developed by the USAF.

And in late 1991 the MoD apparently commissioned line drawings of the UFO, noting that the "sensitivity of (the) material suggests very special handling".

Dr David Clarke, a UFO expert and journalism lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, said the newly-released documents showed the MoD was "not in the slightest bit interested in aliens".

"They're only interested in the defence implications," he said.

"The question is what are the Russians testing, and could any of these sightings be something of that kind? As soon as they have eliminated that, they're not interested."

The files can be accessed at the National Archives and will be free to view for the first month.

Nick Pope, the former MoD official turned UFO specialist, said of the latest files: "There are some UFO sightings here which had us genuinely puzzled. The UFO phenomenon provoked discussion, debate and disagreement, even within the MoD."

New Moon Japanese Seti And Columbias Last Days

New Moon Japanese Seti And Columbias Last Days
Welcome! "Alien Life" tracks the latest discoveries and thoughts in the various elements of the famous Drake Equation. Here's today's news:

g STARS - In a spectacular kick-off to its first season of prime ring viewing, which began last month, the Cassini spacecraft has confirmed earlier suspicions of an unseen moon hidden in a gap in Saturn's outer A ring. A new image and movie show the new moon and the waves it raises in the surrounding ring material. See article.

g ABODES - Of the more than 130 planets found around distant stars, a large number have highly elliptical orbits, crazy oblong shapes that have surprised theorists who try to explain the configurations with near collisions or perturbing disks of gas. See article.

g LIFE - Mark Hebblewhite can look at specific climate statistics from the north Pacific Ocean and tell you how the elk are doing in Banff National Park. The University of Alberta doctoral student is the first researcher to show a correlation between the North Pacific Oscillation and a mammal population. See article.

g INTELLIGENCE - Here's a fascinating paper, "Evolutionary Psychology: A Primer": The goal of research in evolutionary psychology is to discover and understand the design of the human mind. Evolutionary psychology is an approach to psychology, in which knowledge and principles from evolutionary biology are put to use in research on the structure of the human mind. It is not an area of study, like vision, reasoning, or social behavior. It is a way of thinking about psychology that can be applied to any topic within it. In this view, the mind is a set of information-processing machines that were designed by natural selection to solve adaptive problems faced by our hunter-gatherer ancestors. This way of thinking about the brain, mind, and behavior is changing how scientists approach old topics, and opening up new ones. This chapter is a primer on the concepts and arguments that animate it.

g MESSAGE - Two Japanese observatories have started a probe to find signs of extraterrestrial life using radio and optical telescopes, in Japan's first government-backed search for aliens. See article.

g COSMICUS - Must-watch TV: At the same time both touching and heart-wrenching, "Astronaut Diaries" is a one-hour window into the two years of training that prepared the STS-107 astronauts for their flight, based on 150 hours of personal video shot by Columbia astronaut David Brown and his crewmates. Brown was planning to make a personal film about his first spaceflight and recorded video throughout his crew's training and up to the point when he entered Columbia's hatch, where onboard cameras took over. The documentary will debut on the Science Channel today at 8 p.m. CT.

g LEARNING - Today is the SETI Institute's second annual Science Day. Say thanks to a teacher. See article.

g IMAGINING - Ever wondered how all those traditional space-opera and epic-fantasy races - the pig-faced warriors, the smug bumheads, and all the rest - came up with their wonderfully clich'ed alien vocabularies? It's not difficult; once you've mastered these basic rules, you'll be able to produce names and phrases just as stereotypical as theirs. See article.

g AFTERMATH - Epicurus, in the fourth century BC, believed that the universe contained other worlds like our own, and since his time there has been considerable debate whether extraterrestrial life exists and might communicate with us. During the last quarter of the 20th century, an international social movement has emerged which advocates an attempt to achieve communication with extraterrestrial intelligence, CETI, and many of its most active members have been leading scientists. Modest efforts to detect radio signals from intelligent extraterrestrials have already been made, both under government aegis and privately funded, and the technical means for a more vigorous search have been developed. If a CETI project were successful, linguists would suddenly have one or more utterly alien languages to study, and some consideration of linguistic issues is a necessary preparation for it. See article. Note: This article is from 1994.

Humans And Aliens Their Conquest Of Flight

Humans And Aliens Their Conquest Of Flight
Man probably wanted to fly as soon as he first saw birds in flight. The Greek mythological tale of Icarus and Daedalus, which may have been first told as many as three thousand years ago, evidences this long standing dream. It also provides some evidence as to how man first thought he might accomplish this task... by constructing wings of a design similar to those of birds, strapping them on and taking off.

The idea of copying birds, something men obviously knew could fly, clearly didn't die with Icarus. Man's early attempts at powered flight often followed the same logic and, not infrequently, followed with the same fatal results.

Advances in aviation have always involved a lot of guesswork with a slide rule and in 1947 they guessed right and broke the sound barrier with the X-1. Something else also happened in 1947... it was the dawn of the modern UFO era.

Now let's take a step further back in time and examine a couple of startling examples of man getting it wrong and what it says about us. The flat Earth model of our home planet was a misconception that stayed with us for far too long, some fools even clinging to it into the 20th century. And while some cosmologists, like Pythagoras of Samos and Parmenides of Elea, figured out the Earth's spherical nature more than 2000 years ago, their ideas weren't widely known in a pre-printing press world. Most people thought the world was flat and that was the case until a handful of centuries ago.

We find another striking example of this two-dimensional thinking in the arts. Filippo Brunelleschi created the first known paintings demonstrating the concepts of linear perspective and vanishing points in Florence, Italy. He showed artists for the very first time how they could paint their paintings and make three-dimensional objects in them look just like a mirror would reflect them. Before long, the principles of linear perspective became the standard, an artistic tool used to this day for presenting realistic renderings.

And when did Brunelleschi come to this revelation? 1425! That's 1425 A.D.! Man had been creating images on flat surfaces since the days of the caveman. Carbon dating of the cave paintings at Lascaux in France tell us they are 36,000 years old. It's funny if you think about it... the ancient Egyptians could build the Great Pyramids but they couldn't draw them properly!

So now we return to UFOs, or flying saucers, and man's occasionally two-dimensional way of thinking about them.

Consider the reports of UFOs able to instantly appear or disappear. Is it an example of crossing dimensional thresholds on a whim or something a bit simpler?

"it's hard to develop tools without access to fire and the metalworking it affords. But that could just be my carbon-based, air-breathing, tool-using, bipedal-locomotion biases speaking. Perhaps there are forms of aquatic intelligence on other planets that focus on mimicry and language. Until we get to meet E.T., we really can't know what aspects of intelligence are inherently universal."

Of course Chorost raises an excellent point, but what if the truth is really quite simple?

What if aliens really have been continually visiting us for thousands of years?

What if their interest in us is due to our ground-based, "two-dimensional" psychology which is so different from their own?

What if our close relationship with oceans, lakes and rivers, despite our ground-based nature, is of particular interest to them as well?

What if their highly developed aquatic intelligence, based on living and evolving in a "3-D" environment, is better suited to more creative thinking and problem solving?

If so, what can we gain from that and how can we do it?

What if they themselves were genetically engineered from their natural aquatic physical state, perhaps with DNA culled from a species much like us, so they could leave the water and develop the technology to fly to the stars and find themselves?

Bright Blue White Object With Beam Of Light Coming From It Seen Over Bronx New York

Bright Blue White Object With Beam Of Light Coming From It Seen Over Bronx New York
Date: Strike 31, 2012 Time: Twilight. I live in the Bronx and last night I was in my being room previously I noticed a breezy streaking light out of the focus of my eye. I opened the windowpane to get a coffee break feeling as I can not respect what I was seeing.

This object did not severe remarkable, as it requirement wait been in a minute 150 feet from my windowpane. It was very breezy (blue to snowy) and had several points, nearly in front of you would odd previously seeing a sparkle. The object slowed down and had a shimmer go bust to a searchlight outlook out of it and seemed to be scanning the area.

At this press flat I ran to get my camera and inside the top I came be marked with it was ancient. I watch UFO documentaries all the time and respect we are not feeling lonely, but requirement present this took me aback.

And I am fully crucial it was not a helicopter or distend or several other genuinely approved object

Dan Ufo Sighting

Dan Ufo Sighting
I was fifteen, living in my hometown just south of Flint, Michigan. About midnight, on an average summer night, I was laying in my bedroom reading when I noticed a really crisp, bright light moving very slowly from west to east out of my window. I could tell it wasn't a star because it was lower plus it was moving. I would say it was roughly 1/4 mile above the ground, maybe slightly higher, but not by much.I sat up in bed ">As I stood outside watching it, it was so bright, that even that far up I could see the light from it casting on my brothers roof. I could also see within the light that there was solidity to the object. It appeared to have the classic UFO saucer shape although with how bright the light it was emanating, I couldn't make out any definition.It was close enough to me that if it was a plane or helicopter that I would have heard the engine noise but this object gave off absolutely no sound whatsoever as it hovered in the sky.It sat, suspended in the air for some time, then it began moving to the east over a tree line roughly about a mile or so away in the distance. At this point it again floated over the horizon of the trees for a time then began to move slowly down behind the tree line. As far away as I was at this point (again a mile or two) I could still it illuminating the trees as it disappeared behind the horizon.At this point the object was completely out of my view. I just sat there for a while staring in the direction it disappeared. After perhaps 5 minutes or so, I saw a strobe flash of light in the same spot where I saw the object. The closest comparison I've ever been able to give to the flash was the sky looked like heat lightning but it wasn't the whole sky, the flash was from the ground up and fanned out almost like a beacon.I sat outside for another 15 minutes or so watching and never saw anything more. I ran inside, woke up my sister, she came outside, we watched the area it "went down" for quite awhile and we never saw anything more.All the years since, people have asked me what I thought it was. Why I didn't wake anyone up sooner? And how much total time of my sighting.I would say it was an object of an unknown source. It wasn't any known human aircraft that I knew of in the early 80s. I want to say it was an alien spacecraft, but I saw no aliens and have no other proof that it was, but it certainly wasn't a plane, a helicopter or any other aircraft. It wasn't swamp gas, ball lightning or any of the standard debunking explanations because within the bright light, I could make out some kind of solid object.As for waking people up, I was so transfixed with the object that it didn't even occur to me until the bright flash near the end of the experience and I would say in total, the sighting lasted 20 minute or less, then another hour or two I spent watching the area of the flash after the fact before finally going back in the house.-Submitted by Dan ( @TheOtherEstevez )"Have a UFO or ghost sighting you'd like to share?
