I was sitting at the table facing the neighbor's yard to the North, and my sister was at the table facing the South when all of a sudden, an extremely bright, fluorescent green L.E.D.-appearing "rope light" appeared on the neighbor's fence- out of NOWHERE! It startled me- as there have never been any lights on the fence previously, and I was wondering why I hadn't noticed the "new rope lights" previously............my sister saw the expression of surprise on my face and said "What's wrong?" and turned to see what I was looking at. As she turned to see the lights, they DISAPPEARED..........and reappeared at the top of a tree in the neighbor's yard! When the fluorescent green L.E.D.-looking lights shone on the leaves at the top of the tree, they appeared to all "bunch together", and also appeared to emit what I can only describe as "gold, twinkling stars" -becoming very bright. My sister said "Wow! What is THAT?" and I said "I have no idea!" The fluorescent green lights then moved and shone as L.E.D.-looking lights on another neighbor's house.........and then, again, moved to the top of the tree in our yard. My sister said "Well, whoever you are, if you want to talk to us, come on down and do it!" The fluorescent green, L.E.D.-looking rope lights BEGAN DESCENDING DOWN THE TRUNK OF THE TREE, and I said "Oh hell no!"..........and immediately they shot up into yet another tree in the neighbor's yard, "twinkling" at the top. This happened several times...........and as each incidence was CLEARLY not the result of anyone with a laser-pointer (because they would have HAD to have been standing IN the yard to have the lights shine on the trees and structures in the manner that they did, we were totally shocked and unable to explain it. We then decided to walk around our block to see if we could see ANYTHING to help explain the situation.....but saw nothing. My sister said she saw a "dark, shadowy, round object" in the tree just before the lights began "twinkling" on the leaves at the top, but I did not personally see that. My sister said it was the strangest thing she has ever seen, and I was freaked out. After giving this much thought and discussion with my sister, we have pretty much come to the conclusion that the ONLY explanation that makes ANY sense is that whatever it was giving off these lights HAD to have come from ABOVE, and/or IN the trees! VERY weird.

Hi Brian, I will send you a separate email so you know who this story is coming from.
I noticed your category for ghost stories and thought I'd add a bit to your collection. However please be forewarned, it is not dramatic. No chains or moaning! More like just an unusual family member.
My family has always had ghosts. As a young boy living in Vancouver and Alert Bay my father sometimes saw people who were not there and my mother once watched a group of people disappear right in front of her. She was 15 years old and walking down a street near her home in Vancouver. Coming towards her on the sidewalk but on the next block, was a group of about a dozen people. The first thing she noticed was their odd clothing, very old fashioned. She then realized that although they appeared to be talking and laughing there was no sound of voices or of feet on the sidewalk. They reached the corner of their block and turned down the side street just before my mother reached the end of her block. She looked around the corner and although they should have been just a short distance away there was no sign of them. For people who live in Vancouver this was in the Kits area around 4th and happened about 1930.
When my parents married in Prince George in 1942 they built a house near the south side of Connought Hill. In those days that was quite far out of town and very quiet, particularly at night. During the winter of 1943 the ghost arrived.
It announced its arrival by walking up the steps to the front door shortly after my parents went to bed. They could hear the footsteps squeaking in the dry snow as it came up the stairs right outside the bedroom window. No matter how quickly they jumped out of bed and looked out the window they saw nothing unusual. However within 10 minutes of going back to bed a hazy white light about four feet tall would drift past the bedroom door. It never seemed to do any harm and they eventually got used to it. In the summer they never heard it arrive but one of them would notice it go by and calmly comment that the ghost was back. Mom used to wish there was some way of getting it to do housework if it was going to be wandering around all night! Three years later we moved to the Okanagan Valley in British Columbia and dad built another house that we lived in for 12 years. Sure enough, before long the ghost was again drifting through the hallways. Then for several years it was gone until one night I awoke to see it float past my bedroom door. The next morning my mom was a bit excited. Before I could say anything about the ghost she said "Guess what? The ghost is back and this time I saw it take a shape!" She had woken up to see a white hand and arm reaching towards the bedside lamp. Thinking it was my dad she reached out and turned on the light. Of course there was no one there and my dad was deep asleep.
We then moved to Victoria and this time we rented a house instead of building one. It took the ghost about six months to join us. Over the years my parents rented four more houses before buying the one I live in now. Yes, the ghost went with us to every one of them. It was never more than just a white haze until the late 1960's. Then it took on a very familiar shape. One afternoon my parents were sitting in the living room when Timmy, our Border Collie, walked through the room and down a hallway toward the bedrooms. As he went by he gave them a rather unusual look. A few minutes later they heard him barking. He was outside and wanted in. He never had been in the house and walking through the room. No, there were no open windows or doors. My parents checked! The ghost was changing and not always for the better! A few months later my parents were again in the living room when they heard a loud crash in the kitchen. They found that a big bottle of wood stain that was normally at the back of one of the upper kitchen cabinets had somehow come out of the cupboard (the door was still closed) the lid removed and placed on the counter and the bottle thrown against the opposite wall. However, as that was the worst damage that it ever did, we all just accepted that it was there and pretty well ignored it.
Just as an aside, around this time my parents saw two people disappear on the sidewalk outside the house. One afternoon they happened to notice four people walking along the sidewalk, two women in front and two men very close behind them. They were dressed in oddly old fashioned clothes and were bunched so close together that mom and dad thought the men would be stepping on the ladies dresses. For a very brief moment they were out of sight as a tree blocked part of the view from the house. All four went behind the tree and only the two women came out. The tree was near the house, nowhere near the people. The women did not appear to notice the men were gone. There was nowhere the men could have gone and dad even went outside to look. Nothing.
Many years later my younger brother was visiting our house with his wife and baby. I was married no longer living there. They were staying in the bedroom across the hall from my parents. During the night my mother suddenly awoke. A few minutes later the baby started to scream. Just as my brother got up in the dark to see to the baby, a basketball sized ball of light shot down the hallway. Immediately the baby stopped crying. Everyone was so startled they all got up and went into the living room. There, even with the lights on, they saw a couple of smaller balls of light bouncing near the ceiling in the corner of the room. It was very brief and then they were gone.
As the years went by the appearance changed. My mom died and dad still lives with us in the house. He and I have both seen a new shape. This one is shaped like a very narrow black hockey stick (not my idea of a ghost at all!) and darts around very quickly. I saw it first on Christmas Eve in 1992 but never mentioned it. A few days later my dad told of an odd black shape he'd seen darting through the house. the description matched exactly what I had seen. Other than changing size from tall to very short it doesn't really do very much except run around.
As I said at the beginning, our ghost is not dramatic, thank goodness! I would not be surprised if lots of people have similar "beings" but don't even really notice. However there were some rather strange, unsettling and dramatic events that took place during this time. One ghost (or angel?) even saved my life. Right now is not the time to go into it all but if you'd like I'd be happy to give you the details at a later date. Closer to Halloween perhaps! Now, in spite of the fact that I say the ghost didn't really frighten us, it is getting late, I am home alone and there is no light in the house except from the computer screen. I think I'd best stop for now before I start to hear strange noises ! I'm not quite as brave as I like to think I am.

O TEORIE A CONSPIRATIEI PLAUZIBILA?

Este suficient sa ne gandim in felul urmator, pentru a lasa sa ne patrunda "in sistem" un crampei de indoiala: OARE NOI, OAMENII - AVENTURIERI, OPORTUNISTI, CURIOSI SI ISCODITORI, CUM NE STIM -, AM EVITA SA NE STRECURAM IN SANUL UNEI CIVILIZATII INFERIOARE, NOU DESCOPERITA, CA MEMBRI AI EI, PENTRU A O STUDIA SI CHIAR MANIPULA DIN INTERIOR, in masura in care abilitatile noastre fizice si psihice sau tehnologia de care dispunem ne-ar permite acest lucru? Oare ce anume, dincolo de discutabile bariere morale sau anumite riscuri, ne-ar opri sa intreprindem o asemenea actiune?
Desigur, chiar si pentru cei care cred sincer in extraterestri, paralela poate parea fortata si ideea in sine mai degraba apanajul unei minti foarte entuziaste. Cat despre cei bigoti, care resping oricum din start existenta unor fiinte extraterestre, nici nu mai poate fi vorba ca ar acorda ceva mai mult decat statutul de blasfemie unor ganduri de acest fel. Toata povestea este, la urma urmei, conditionata strict de existenta sau inexistenta extraterestrilor. Deci si in aceasta situatie, cumva, discutia se rezuma tot la problema existentei extraterestrilor si nu la posibilitatea ca ei sa recurga la asemenea tactici de... spionaj.

De asemenea, la fel ca in cele prezentate mai sus, si in film, personajul principal dispare in final ca prin minune din camera de spital. Cercetand pe Wikipedia cateva detalii despre cartea si filmul "K-PAX", se mentioneaza in scurta descriere ca, desi este o poveste fictionala, ea este prezentata ca si cum s-ar baza pe fapte reale. Putin probabil ca asemenarea dintre cele doua povesti sa fie pur coincidentiala.
Desigur, mometan, publicul nu dispune de, poate, nici macar o singura dovada incontestabila ca extraterestri ar trai printre noi. Si pana cand se va dovedi acest lucru, daca se va dovedi si daca este real, asemenea teorii vor ramane doar apanajul unei fantezii exacerbate, fantezie impartasita, totusi, de multi colocuitori ai planetei.

A STUNNED couple yesterday told how they captured a spooky green man on camera at their home.
Gary and Amanda Linney said the strange figure was spotted running away from their cottage as they experimented with a new camera.
The bizarre snaps emerged just days after another family claimed to have filmed a UFO floating above their house about 25 miles away.
Former policeman Gary, 52, said there was no explanation for the figure.
He said: "It looks like a little green man running. It just disperses into the surface of the road.
"If you look closely, you can see a head. It's very surreal. I was a policeman and a pilot for 20 years and have never seen anything like this before."
Hotel owners Gary and Amanda, 46, from Collieston, Aberdeenshire, tried to recreate the picture but have never seen the strange light since.
But they said they weren't spooked by the images after experiencing a string of paranormal happenings at the Slains Estate house.
Dad-of-three Gary said: "This wasn't a reflection. We live in two old cottages and my children have seen orbs floating around and heard footsteps. It's usually around the staircase."

Amanda, 45, said staff at their hotel - which is also thought to be haunted - suggested the ghostly figure may have come from there.
She said: "I have no idea what it was. We have used the same setting, taken photos in the same location and in different locations and nothing has appeared again.
"We have experienced a lot of strange things since we took over the place two years ago so the staff think something spooky had followed me home that night."
Last week, Morag Ritchie, of Fraserburgh, told how she was woken in the night by flashing lights outside her house.
The 50-year-old claimed several members of her family saw a UFO. Her daughter Cara's fiance, Scott Bower filmed footage on his phone.
A Ministry of Defence spokeswoman could not explain the sighting and Grampian Police said there had been no reports of lights in the sky.
Scottish paranormal investigator Malcolm Robinson is now reviewing the footage.
He said: "That area has one of the highest concentration of UFO reports in the UK, particularly the Aberdeenshire town of Muchalls."

We Need World Government Because Of Space Aliens
As Bill Cooper says in this short video most of us "have been ignoring the UFO phenomenon for too long. It has all the hallmarks of the most successful, most sophisticated, mind control operation in the history of the world and [we] are ignoring it."
The video came to mind the other day when the story that Winston Churchill 'ordered a cover-up of a Second World War encounter between a UFO and a RAF bomber [because he feared] a public "panic" and loss of faith in religion about the... incident'.
Is this yet another small step in the operation. A subtle seed planted into the consciousness of the masses in readiness for the great alien deception. Who knows? The PTB certainly want their world government whatever way they can get it and the existence of aliens as a reason for the world to 'unite' appears to be one of the possible tactics they can employ.

EXAMINING THE EARTHLIGHT THEORY...
An investigation into a mini-flap.

By now we've all heard of "earth lights." Paul Devereux of Great
Britian coined the term in 1982 when he published EARTH LIGHTS. In
that book, Devereux developed the idea that UFOs are a byproduct of
natural processes in the earth.
Micheal Persinger of Canada had already been saying the same
thing for years in a continous outpouring of papers in which he
developed his Tectonic Strain Theory of UFOs.
Vanguard Notes...
Michael Persinger is the researcher working with pulsating and
targeted magnetic fields in the brain. He and his team created
a "helmet" using nails wrapped with many turns of wire to form
cylindrical solenoids. These were then mounted in a sort of
football helmet to allow them to hang over different parts of
the brain.
When connected to a computer as a "printer", various patterns
can be output to magnetically stimulate the brain with specific
and repeatable patterns.
One of the most fascinating results of the experiment involved
the use of subjects with their eyes closed. While a certain
pattern was projected or "printed" to the solenoids, a
flashlight was aimed toward the subject's eyes and slowly
lowered. (a loose description follows)
Asked to describe what they saw, EVERY SUBJECT said the same
thing,
"I see a UFO coming down, it is landing. Now there are
small grey people coming out of it towards me. They are
taking me into the ship. Now they are doing somekind of
physical exploration. I am now being taken from the
ship."
As the flashlight beam is lifted up, the subject's say that the
UFO is now ascending and moving away.
Dennis Stacy investigated Persinger's work in Canada and
reported on it in a December issue of OMNI. I believe it was
88'.
We also have papers regarding other experiments in inducing
feelings or actions in the body using magnetic, electric and
sonic fields. These are being placed on KeelyNet as time and
funds allow, with as much technical data as we can provide.
Unfortunately, despite Devereux and Persinger's passion for the
concept of a UFO/earth stress link, neither researcher has yet
proven the case that UFOs are purely a natural phenomenon.
Rock has been crushed in the laboratory, eliciting extraordinary
brief pulses of light, but the result of that experiment--in the
words of Brian Brady, who developed the experiment--the crushing of
rock cannot account for "discrete" light forms seen at high altitude
(read : spherical UFOs at high altitude).
In fact, Brady's experiment even does away with the famous
"piezo-electric effect" as a source of UFOs; in terms of energy
output, piezo-electricity is simply too weak to account for anything
more than momentary, diffuse glows of light.

If you want to demonstrate this effect for yourself Wintergreen
Life Saver candies will generate this piezo-electric glow when
you crunch them between your teeth. Turn out the light and
chew one or more while watching the glow from your mouth in a
mirror.
As a matter of fact, when this effect was first discovered
about these candies, many people working in hospitals percieved
them as a very real danger. The concern was that people in
oxygen tents might chew one and the resultant spark might
ignite and explode the oxygen in the enclosed tent.
A scientific study was done on this phenomenon and the effect
had no ignition effect whatsoever.
More importantly, how can a mysterious, elusive and unidentified
physical mechanism create STRUCTURED objects? This is the great
failing of the "earth-lights" theory; it attempts to solve the UFO
mystery by ignoring the actual content of the UFO report.
Any unexplained object seen in an earthquake-prone region--no
matter how artificial in appearance or "intelligent" in its actions
-suddenly becomes a byproduct of ionization, plasmas or some other
little-understood electrical process.
In 1981 I began an investigation into UFO sightings that had
occured over 20 years in a single area, the Yakima Indian
Reservation in south-central Washington state.
In the early 1980s, the MUFON UFO Journal published several of my
papers based on my preliminary findings. Now the J. Allen Hynek
Center for UFO Studies has published my complete findings as a book:
EXAMINING THE EARTHLIGHT THEORY: The Yakima UFO Microcosm.
EXAMINING THE EARTHLIGHT THEORY looks microscopically at the
Tectonic Strain Theory of UFOs. I use the Yakima data (nearly 200
reports from a variety of witnesses, plus numerous color
photographs) to test the viability of the Tectonic Strain Theory
which Persinger believes explains the Yakima sightings.
The Yakima data form a "microcosm," a fascinating, self-contained
world of strange reports, which include a range of unexplained
occurences--orange balls of light, CE3's, possible abductions,
Bigfoot sightings, daylight objects, subterrrean sounds and more.
Nearly every part of the Reservation experienced some type of
unexplained event over a 20 year period, making the Yakima Indian
Reservation an excellent "laboratory" for detailed examination of
UFO phenomena.
Earthquake faults mark the ridges of the Reservation; it lies at
the foot of the volcanic Cascade Range; and fire lookouts were in
place on top of three mountains to observe and record strange lights
year after year...the right conditions for data collection, plenty
of UFOs and more than enough meticulous documentation to whet the
appetite of a curious scientist in serach of an explanation.
EXAMINING THE EARTHLIGHT THEORY takes the reader on a historical
journey, following the sightings to their most recent occurence. All
data of this unique mini-flap are used to thoroughly evaluate the
basic components of the Tectonic Strain Theory. EXAMINING THE

facts of the Yakima micrcosm are weighed, sifted and evaluated in

THERE ARE OBJECTS IN THE NIGHT SKY THAT CANNOT BE EXPLAINED BY ANY KNOWN SOURCE. THESE UFO OBJECTS, ACCORDING TO THE BEST EXPERT ON SPOTTING THEM, ARE BEST VIEWED WITHIN THE FIRST TWO HOURS OF COMPLETE DARKNESS AFTER SUNSET. IF THESE OBJECTS, THE EXPERT REASONED, ARE FLYING AT NIGHT VISIBly cloaked, they should still give off heat signatures. They do.
BEFORE THE 2009 INTERNATIONAL UFO CONGRESS, IF SOMEONE HAD TOLD ME YOU COULD SEE UFOS WITH SPECIAL NIGHT VISION SCOPES I WOULD HAVE SAID THEY WERE DREAMING. AS THE DATE OF THE 2009 INTERNATIONAL UFO CONGRESS WAS APPROACHING, A FRIEND OF MINE CALLED ME AND MENTIONED SOME PERSON NAMED ED GRIMSLEY WHO WOULD BE DOING SOME UFO SPOTTING with night vision goggles each night of the Congress. I asked him how much it would cost to go out with Ed and he said he didn't know. According to Ed Grimsley, my friend said, "you can see UFOs anywhere". I thought in my head... yeah, sure.
THIS WAS A SPECIAL CONFERENCE FOR ME BECAUSE ONE OF MY CONTACTS, AND NOW FRIEND, IN THE SCIENCE FIELD WAS COMING TO HIS FIRST UFO CONFERENCE. WE WERE HAVING AN ABSOLUTE BLAST AT THE CONFERENCE AND WE BOOKED OUR NIGHT TO GO OUT UFO SPOTTING WITH ED. THE PRICE WAS MORE THAN FAIR: IT WAS FREE. MY FRIEND COULD ONLY ATTEND THE WEEKEND, SO WE BOOKED WITH ED FOR THE NIGHT MY FRIEND FLEW IN. I FELT, IN MY OWN ARROGANCE, THAT GOING IN TO THIS SPOTTING ADVENTURE, I WOULD BE ABLE TO EASILY EXPLAIN WHAT THEY WERE SEEING (HAVING BEEN AN AVID AMATEUR ASTRONOM
ER WHEN I WAS A YOUNg man). That night we assembled and were escorted outside of the hotel as cars pulled up and people filed in. This was all volunteer cars, gas and everything. There were 24 people in the group and they drove us to a local parking spot on the outskirts of Laughlin, which wasn't very far if you know Laughlin.
AT FIRST ED WAS SITTING ON A LITTLE CHAIR AND WHEN WE ALL ARRIVED HE LECTURED US ON THE PROPER USE OF THE SCOPES AND THE LASER LIGHTS. HE MENTIONED HOW SOME SCOPES HAD BEEN STOLEN FROM HIM IN THE PAST, AND, FOR THAT REASON, WHEN HE SHOUTED, "RAISE THE SCOPES," WE MUST RAISE THEM ABOVE OUT HEADS SO THEY COULD BE COUNTED. HE TOLD US SMALL GROUPS WOULD BE FORMED AND EACH GROUP WOULD BE LED BY ONE OF HIS FRIENDS WITH A SCOPE. WHEN SOMETHING WAS SPOTTED THE PERSON IN THE GRoup who saw the object should use the laser to point the object out so the other groups could follow the objects with scopes. Remember, you can't see these objects with your eyes.
AS WE FORMED THE GROUPS WHAT STRUCK ME WAS THE UTTER DARKNESS ONCE WE TURNED ALL LIGHT SOURCES OFF. REMEMBER I LIVE IN BROOKLYN, NY AND WE DON'T GET DARKNESS LIKE THAT. FIRST THING SPOTTED WAS A PLANE. WE ALREADY KNEW NOT TO LASER UNLESS SURE. FOR A WHILE THERE WAS NOTHING AND PEOPLE JUST PASSED THE SCOPES AROUND CHECKING THEM OUT AND LOOKING AROUND. BUT THEN MY FRIEND, GARY, AN OLD TIMER TO THIs conference, shouted, "Look," as he pointed at something I couldn't see with my eyes. As the groups followed his laser you could hear the groups shouting. Eventually I saw through the scope what everyone was pointing at... a pencil shaped object standing still. The object had been moving but then it suddenly stopped. As I watched the object it started moving really fast again, I could not believe it. Unfortunately, then I had to pass the scope. About ten minutes later, three oblong objects appeared. They traveled in unison and much too fast to be a satellite. Although Ed felt these objects were two hundred miles up, the truth was, you could not really tell. The objects seemed to be changing direction, not orbiting in a straight line. Then we witnessed 6 objects which to me seemed more round in appearance. They also traveled in complete unison and when they stopped, you could hear the whole group gasp. It shocked the hell out of me, to tell you the truth. We saw other objects traveling in groups of two or more and some that were alone. None of them resembled anything I have ever witnessed in the sky. None of these objects could be seen with the naked eye. Ed told us only the new generation three night vision goggles could detect them. Each one of the goggles cost 3,700.00.
However, the night was not over yet. As we were watching an object rose from the horizon in the opposite direction from where we had been spotting these objects. This object was different because you could see it with your eyes. It was egg shaped and seem to hover in place. We all flashed it with our lasers and as that happened, it flashed very brightly at us. Everyone shouted in amazement. I took the scope to see if I could tell where the lights was coming from. It seemed as the light diminished it was coming from the top of the object. As the object rose higher into the sky it disappeared from our eyes, but I could still see it on my scope. It changed directions for a while, but then as I watched it the object,t started to turn back toward the direction it had previously traveled...it then disappeared.
WE HAD TO LEAVE THEN, BUT NOT WITHOUT HAVING TO WAIT FOR FIVE MINUTES SO THEY COULD FIND A "MISSING" SCOPE. IT WAS OBVIOUS THE PERSON WAS TRYING TO WALK WITH IT BUT HE EVENTUALLY GAVE IT UP. NOT EVERYONE IN THE UFO COMMUNITY IS HONEST.
MY FRIEND WAS IN SHOCK. NOT ONLY DID HE GO TO HIS FIRST UFO CONFERENCE, BUT HE HAD SIX SEPARATE UFO SIGHTINGS. AT THE END WE HAD NO PROOF BECAUSE NO ONE WAS VIDEOING THESE OBJECTS. SOME IN THE GROUP HAD GRASPED AT STRAWS FOR EXPLANATIONS AND THOUGHT THEY MAY BE BIRDS MIGRATING. HOWEVER, CHECKING WITH A WILDLIFE EXPERT THE NEXT DAY DISSOLVED ANY POSSIBILITY WHAT WE SAW WAS BIRDS: "TOO LATE IN THE SEASON FOR MIGRATION AND THEY DON'T FLY AT NIGHT", WAS HIS ANSWER. I KNEW THEY WEREN'T BIRDS.
MY FRIENDS AND I STARTED TO THINK HOW WE COULD GET OUR HANDS ON ONE OF THESE SCOPES AND MAYBE A CAMCORDER ATTACHMENT. ALL OF US BELIEVED THE STOCK MARKET WAS ABOUT TO CRASH. I HAD BEEN WARNING MY FRIENDS FOR MONTHS. WE DIDN'T WANT TO PUT THAT TYPE OF MONEY OUT NOT KNOWING WHAT WOULD BE HAPPENING. THE NEXT DAY ED RECALLED TALES OF SEEING THESE OBJECTS SHOOT OTHER OBJECTS WITH A BEAM OF LIGHT AND WATCHING THEM BURN UP IN THE ATMOSPHERE. AFTER SEEING WHAT I SAW THAT NIGHT I COULD HARDLY CALL THE MAN A LIAR. IN FACT ONE OF THE GROUPS SAW AN OBJECT DIRECT A BEAM AT ANOTHER OBJECT WHICH DISAPPEARED INTO THE ATMOSPHERE. HERE WE HAD BEFORE US THE WHOLE SHEBANG, DIFFERENT TYPES OF CRAFT, SUGGESTING MANY DIFFERENT ENTITIES AND THE VERY REAL POSSIBILITY SOME SPECIES OF ETS WERE AT WARS (POSSIBLY PROTECTING US?). THIS NEEDED TO BE DOCUMENTED AND MY FRIENDS AND I DECIDED WE WOULD SOMEHOW TRY. WE ALL LEFT THE CONFERENCE BELIEVING THE BEST WAYS TO INVESTIGATION THE UFO PHENOMENON ACTIVELY WAS WITH NIGHT VISION AND WE WERE GOING TO PROVE THIS BY VIDEOING WHAT WE SAW. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT IS A LESSON IN LIFE ITSELF. NEXT WEEK I WILL DESCRIBE THE JOURNEY WE HAD BUYING A SCOPE AND THE KIND SCIENTIST WHO BUILT A ONE OF A KIND ADAPTER FOR US.

DEPENDS ON HOW YOU 'SAY' IT

You can find some of the all-time great tombstones languishing in Key West Cemetery. They're noted not merely for the pompous spectacles the deceased have created of themselves, but also for what appear to be posthumous darts leveled by their survivors.
Interjected here and there beneath the names and dates of the decedents' lives are the selective and vaguely sardonic applications of quotation marks. There may be legitimate reasons for putting "Poet, Father," and "Writer" in quotes to summarize a legacy, but to the cynical among us, those devices reek of insincerity.
That's why insights into at least one aspect of a UFO case that's been bugging North Carolina researcher Scott Ramsey for more than 20 years might come down to punctuation.
The issue is an Oct. 5, 1950, report generated by a district commander of the Air Force Office of Special Investigations to his boss in Washington. Declassified in 1975, this one details an attempt to bust a guy offering to sell state secrets - in this case, photos from an alleged UFO crash scene at Aztec, N.M., in 1948.
The censorship on this two-page report, slugged "Purchase Offer of Flying Saucer Photographs," is a joke from the get-go. Although the identities of the two principle characters are blacked out in the main body of the text, their names - L.D. McLaughlin and "an individual named Cline," according to the report - aren't redacted upon first reference.
Briefly, in September 1950, McLaughlin met Cline at a Denver hotel and offered to sell him UFO pix for 1,500. Cline then alerted authorities, who pounced on McLaughlin.
Government agents noted that "in spite of his denials, his manner indicated that he had some knowledge of the incident or may have taken pictures of it." But the OSI evidently bought McLaughlin's defense that he was drunk when he spoke with Cline. It appears as if the USAF let the matter drop.
But Ramsey wanted to know more about Cline's role in this affair. After all, the document described him as from - and this part is in direct quotes, like "Poet" and "Father" in Key West - "The Baltimore Sun."
Ramsey spent hours on the horn with researchers at the paper, hoping to understand how the story turned out, and why a reporter working on a project of this potential magnitude would blow his lead to federal agents first. Ramsey passed along different potential spellings of Cline's name. His liaison at The Sun "went through every archive they could locate," Ramsey reported in an e-mail. "Only Cline was Lawrence Cline, died 1929, and a Donald Klien that did not start until July 1957 and left in January 1969." And there was no story, to boot.
Given the multiple bureaucracies aroused by McLaughlin, Ramsey, who's completing a book on the Aztec mystery, is left with a legitimate question: "How did the FBI, Army CID, and the Air Force OSI get duped by one person?"
Well, just remember our large-scale intelligence failures in 1950. Even as Chinese artillery was pounding the hell out of U.S. positions across the Yalu River, the CIA was telling the White House that China had no plans to invade the Korean peninsula.
This "Cline" guy was probably just another "patriot."
