I was at work, and was out smoking a cigarette. Just looked up to see if it was cloudy. Then I relized that as the objects moved, it appeared they were emitting very dull sparkes, that appeared to be filling in the sky. Watched on and off for an hour.

December 27-30, 1980 - Rendlesham Forest - The UK Roswell

When it comes to UFO cases, it doesn't get any better than the Rendlesham UK UFO encounter: A large air force base known for highly classified work; UFO tracked by radar at Heathrow; Living eye-witnesses of considerable reputation amd stature; tape recorded evidence from the scene by military personnel; numerous external reports of UFO sightings in the same area by towns people; phenomenal level of military cover up later exposed through freedom of information act.
In December of 1980 Rendledham/Bentwaters Air Force base and adjacent forest became the site of several extraterrestrial visitations clearly intended to be seen, reported and never forgotten.
Case info -- Early in the morning of 27 Dec 80 (approximately 0300L), two USAF security police patrolmen saw unusual lights outside the back gate at RAF Woodbridge. Thinking an aircraft might have crashed or been forced down, they called for permission to go outside the gate to investigate. The on duty flight chief responded and allowed three patrolmen to proceed on foot. The individuals reported seeing a strange glowing object in the forest. The object was described as being metallic in appearance and triangular in shape, approximately two to three meters across the base and approximately two meters high. It illuminated the entire forest with a white light. The object itself had a pulsating red light on top and a bank(s) of blue lights underneath. The object was hovering or on three legs. As the patrolmen approached the object, it maneuvered through the trees and disappeared. At this time the animals on a nearby farm went into a frenzy. The object was briefly sighted approximately an hour later near the back gate.
Halt took with him a team of specialists which included: Lieutenant Bruce Englund, Sergeant Monroe Nevilles, who operated the Geiger counter, and Master Sergeant Bobby Ball. The team was later joined by Airman First Class John Burroughs, who would be one of the principal figures in the investigation.
One of the patrolmen, Staff Sergeant Jim Penniston, later reported that, as they neared the object: "The air was filled with electricity. You could feel it on your skin as we approached the object."
After observing the object from a safe distance, Penniston also examined it at close range for some twenty minutes, actually touching the "smooth, black, glass-type fabric" and the strange symbols etched into its surface. Finally, the craft rose upwards and as quoted in the 'Strange But True?' interview, "It slowly started moving back, weaving in and around the trees. It got about 40 feet away, then it raised up into the air and it shot off as fast as you could blink. On the upper left side of the craft, was an inscription. It measured six inches high, of symbols. They looked familiar, but I couldn't ascertain why."
The next day, three depressions 1 1/2" deep and 7" in diameter were found where the object had been sighted on the ground. The following night the area was checked for radiation. Beta/Gamma readings of 0.1 milliroentgens were recorded with peak readings in the three depressions and near the center of the triangle formed by the depressions. A nearby tree had moderate (.05 -.07) readings on the side of the tree toward the depressions. Lt. Colonel Halt insisted that an appropriate entry be made in the security police log. Halt's report did not end there, because the next night more activity occurred in Rendlesham Forest, pulling Halt away from his dinner:
Later in the night a red sun-like light was seen through the trees. It moved about and pulsed. At one point it appeared to throw off glowing particles and then broke into five separate white objects and then disappeared. Immediately thereafter, three star-like objects were noticed in the sky, two objects to the north and one to the south, all of which were about 10^0 off the horizon. The objects moved rapidly in sharp angular movements and displayed red, green and blue lights. The objects to the north appeared to be elliptical through an 8 - 12 power lens. They then turned to full circles. The objects to the north remained in the sky for an hour or more. The object to the south was visible for two or three hours and beamed down a stream of light from time to time.
The Halt document, one of the most important papers in the study of UFOs, states that patrolmen on the base encountered a "saucer-like" object in the forest adjacent to the military bases. Halt describes the craft as maneuvering through the forest's trees, and eventually disappearing into the sky. He further states that the next day's investigation found marks at the spot of the encounter, and abnormal levels of radiation. On the same night of the event, strange objects were observed performing aerial moves that defied the laws of physics. These lights divided into smaller lights, and eventually disappeared from view.
After years of speculation and theory, Colonel Halt released an 18-minute audio cassette that he states was made on the night of the encounter. On the tape could clearly be heard various senior officers, including Halt, communicating via walkie-talkies, as personnel tramped through the woods investigating the unusual craft. The voices are at times panic stricken, as they conveyed that a beam from the craft disabled electrical devices in the area for a time. Incredibly, the tape also relates that "video" and "still" photographs were taken of this strange object.

In November and December 1980, the eastern side of Britain was experiencing a major UFO sighting wave. There were chases of UFOs by police cars near the coast, a UFO that overflew an oil rig in the North Sea, and the wave culminated in the famous events on the East Anglian coast at Rendlesham Forest. Just a month before these landings beside those NATO air bases, one of the most impressive alien abduction cases took place in the small Penninemill town of Todmorden, West Yorkshire, right in the centre of Britain's most active window area known locally as "UFO Alley".
Police Constable Alan Godfrey was on patrol on the night of 28 November 1980. Just before dawn he drove along Burnley Road on the edge of Todmorden looking for some cows that had been reported missing. They were only found after sun-up, mysteriously relocated in a rain-soaked field without hoofmarks to indicate their passage.
Giving up his nocturnal hunt, Godfrey was about to go back to base to sign off duty when he saw a large mass a few hundred yards ahead. At first, he thought it was a bus coming towards him that took workers to their jobs in town and that he knew passed about 5:00 a.m. But as he approached, he realized that it was something very strange. It was a fuzzy oval that rotated at such speed and hovered so low over the otherwise deserted highway that it was causing the bushes by the side to shake. The police officer stopped, propped onto his windscreen a pad that was in the patrol car to make sketches of any road accidents, and drew the UFO. Then there was a burst of light, and the next thing he knew he was driving his car again, further along Burnley Road, with no sign of the UFO.
Godfrey turned around and examined the spot where the UFO had hovered. The road was very wet as it had rained heavily earlier in the night. But just at this one location was a circular patch where the roadway had been dried in a swirled pattern. Only when back at the police station did he realise that it was a little later than he had expected - although any missing time was probably no greater than 15 minutes from estimates later taken on site.
Concerned as to possible ridicule, Godfrey at first chose not to make an official report, but changed his mind later that day when he discovered he was not alone. After breakfast that morning, a driver who had been on Burnley Road three miles further out at Cliviger reported seeing a brilliant white object and contacted Todmorden police. The time matched that of Alan Godfrey's. Furthermore, a police patrol from an adjacent force (Halifax) had been engaged in a stakeout for stolen motorcycles on the moors of the Calder Valley and had witnessed a brilliant blue-white glow descending into the valley towards Todmorden shortly before Godfrey experienced his close encounter. Their story, when it reached Todmorden police station, formed a second match.
Encouraged by this news Godfrey filed an official report, but was surprised when police chose to release the story to the local newspaper the following week. From here, UFOlogists discovered the case and a lengthy investigation was mounted by a Manchester-based UFO group.
Although Alan Godfrey had no further conscious recall of the missing time, he did have increasingly confused memory of the sequence of events surrounding the sighting (with an unexplained image of seeing himself outside the car during the sighting). There was also puzzling physical evidence. His police-issue boots were split on the sole, as if he had been dragged along the floor and they had caught on something. He also reported a previous history of seeing other strange things and having experienced at least one earlier time lapse as a youth-factors that UFOlogists have come to recognise as common with abduction cases.
When sure that all conscious testimony had been recorded, Godfrey agreed to be hypnotically regressed by a Manchester psychiatrist eight months after the incident. He eventually had several other sessions with different therapists, and his recall in later sessions was video-taped. The doctor refused permission to the UFO group for the first session to be recorded.
The hypnotic testimony is very odd, and Godfrey was never to be sure what really happened. Under regression he told of the bright light stopping the car engine, causing his radio and police handset both to be filled with static and then to be swamped by blinding light as he lost consciousness. His next recall was of being inside a strange room, more like a house than a spaceship, complete with a most unexpected large black dog. He was studied by a heavily bearded man who telepathically conveyed that his name was "Yosef" and whose clothing was very Biblical in nature. Assisting Yosef were several small robot-like creatures "the size of a five-year-old lad" and with "a head shaped like a lamp". They are reminiscent of the "Grays" of UFO lore; although with major differences.
Godfrey was supposedly asked questions, told that he "knew" Josef, and was promised a later encounter. But apparently he was not subjected to the more familiar indignities of abduction stories (especially from the US), such as bodily fluid samples and rectal probes. Although there were periods of missing memory, the hypnotic recall that did emerge was a curious hybrid of mythic images, UFO case elements and dream like sequences.
When asked his opinion as to the reality status of this hypnotic testimony, Alan Godfrey was refreshingly honest. He told me he was certain that the UFO encounter was real, but he could not determine whether the story offered by hypnosis was a dream, a fantasy, reality, or a mixture of all three.
Unhappily, Alan Godfrey suffered terribly after this encounter. When I first wrote up the investigation (just before the regression hypnosis began) for Flying Saucer Review magazine in l981, I deliberately changed his identity to help protect him; although this was probably futile because the story had already been featured in the local press under Godfrey's real name.
However, despite my refusal to assist them, a tabloid reporter traced the witness and devoted a front-page banner headline article to the story - read by millions over the Sunday lunch-which led to the officer being called to explain himself before his superiors. He was forced to undergo medical investigation to determine his "status", but was pronounced psychologically fit and healthy. Yet after some years feeling that he would never be allowed to forget his sighting, he took advice to honorably resign over an unrelated physical injury incurred during an incident in which he bravely intervened to avert a crime.
Todmorden, both before 1980 and in the years since, has been a hotbed of alien contact activity with several other major encounters having been investigated, including another abduction of a truck driver from Burnley Road only a little further out of Todmorden and on the same highway.

I'd add to this that it isn't just young people, nor all young people, but that this attitude is found among all age groups. There are calls to ignore the history and focus on the now, which is a disservice to "all" research. (At the same time, you don't want to get stuck in the past.)
The chronic skeptics, in all their varieties, point to the fact that after so many years -- whether it's sixty years or a thousand -- we haven't found any answers. That's true, if one means, by "answer," the final one size fits all solution to the UFO question. We haven't found "the answer." The point is, we very likely won't. That's unacceptable for some. For others, it's a non-issue, since we heavily suspect we'll never find the "answer" and anyway, that's beside the point.

His article was published in the Alamogordo Daily News newspaper on Sunday, August 30, 2009, and is shown here in its entirety.

"Of the several dozen Project Mogul balloon flights from 1947-1950 - the majority launched from the Tularosa Basin - three lifted aloft this week in 1948.
One launched Aug. 31 and tested an automatic ballast valve, then landed at Fort Stockton, Texas. A Sept. 1 flight was recovered at Neuvas Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, and a Sept. 3 flight-tested a neoprene coated nylon balloon that touched down at Villa Ahumada, Chihuahua.
The Roswell Report: Case Closed" (USAF/1997) reported Mogul had military and scientific purposes, but the foremost was listening for launches of Soviet nuclear weapons and ballistic missiles. A monograph, "Cold War Balloon Flights 1945-1965" (on the Web site vectorsite.net), said microphones attached to the balloons listened for "sound waves."
Mogul sought to "maintain America's technological superiority, especially with respect to guarding against... a devastating surprise attack" the Soviet Union might launch, said "The Roswell Report" Fact vs. Fiction in the New Mexico Desert" (USAF/1994).
Militaries have long utilized balloons. During World War II, according to vectorsite.net, the Allies developed "decoys... such as inflatable phony tanks... to fool German reconnaissance aircraft." An article in the New Mexico Museum of Space History Archives, "Remote Piloted Aerial Vehicles," described how Austrians, in 1849, "launched some 200 pilot less balloons against the city of Venice. The balloons were armed with bombs controlled by timed fuses.... Some of the balloons exploded as planned but the wind changed direction and blew several balloons back over the Austrian lines."
The Japanese launched "anti-personnel bombs" against the United States and Canadian west coast, stated a second archived article, "Fugos: Japanese Balloon Bombs of WWII." It documented how 9,300 were launched, resulting in "a little over 300 balloon bomb incidents." The only deaths occurred after a woman and five children at a church picnic in Oregon tried to move one of the contraptions. A 1945 Seattle Times article said the bomb exploded.
Mogul, one of the first post World War II balloon programs, continued "the cooperative wartime relationship between civilian research institutions and the military," said "The Roswell Report: Fact vs. Fiction in the New Mexico Desert." The document, along with Karl Pflock in "Roswell" (Prometheus/2001), stated New York University was the civilian institution involved with Mogul.
Technology to fly balloons to extreme altitudes came with the "invention of improved plastics, particularly polyethylene" after World War II, said "Cold War Balloon Flights." While under contract to the military, NYU graduate student Charles Moore "made a significant technological discovery: the use of polyethylene for high altitude balloon construction" said "Roswell: Case Closed." Mogul became the first balloon project to use the lightweight polyethylene.
Moore, in a 1995 NMMSH oral history, said that in early 1947 his group "approached General Mills to make balloons out of polyethylene and were rebuffed.... We of course weren't in position to describe the classified high priority programs we had." So a manufacturer in Merignac, New York, "made the first polyethylene balloons," said Moore.
Documentation compiled by NMMSH archivist Wayne Mattson showed that on June 4, 1947 the fourth Mogul flight touched down northwest of Roswell. "The Roswell Report: Fact vs. Fiction in the New Mexico Desert" described how three "lifter balloons" pulled a "train" of equipment that included 26 main balloons. The "train" stretched to 657 feet and, said "Cold War Balloon Flights," included "kitelike structures covered with aluminum foil to allow the balloon system to be tracked on radar." The two Air Force "Roswell" publications conjecture that upon landing this might have been misconstrued as a "debris field," becoming the impetus behind the infamous UFO Roswell Incident.
"I suspect," Moore said, "that the New York University flights probably are responsible for the Roswell incident.... Every time that we flew balloons in late June, and early July the local radio station in Alamogordo would carry reports of flying saucers being seen over the Tularosa (Basin)."
UFO researcher and columnist Dennis Balthaser, a Roswell resident, disagreed.
"It's of special interest to me as a researcher, that in the photographs taken in General Ramey's office on July 8, 1947... the only thing presented for the photographs was a weather balloon, with none of the equipment that would have been attached to a Mogul balloon, such as sonobuoys or radar reflectors," he said.

So the controversy about the Mogul balloon theory continues in articles such as the one above, on the Internet from time to time, and in other forums. If the debunkers and critics would bring something new to the table just once, it might be worth discussing, but after 62 years that hasn't, and apparently is not going to happen. The Roswell crash based on extensive research by David Rudiak and others has eliminated the Mogul balloon theory as a possible solution to the Roswell Incident, and as I stated in the above article, "I think it's time for the proponents of the Mogul balloon theory to move on."

In June 2011 Pat McDermott got in touch with me about a very strange sighting that his wife and daughter had experienced back in 2009. This report covers the incident and my thoughts on what took place. Unfortunately Pat has not got back in touch so only limited information is known about this incident.
Note: Some names in this report have been made up for ease of reading.
INCIDENT DETAILS
At some point in 2009 Pat, his wife Dianne and daughter Emily were on their way back home in their car. Pat has not provided me with the location where this incident took place. Pat was driving; Dianne was in the passenger seat and Emily on the back seat. Suddenly Dianne exclaimed "Look there's a flying car!" She was looking out of the passenger side window. Emily looked out and saw what she was referring to. Pat tried to see but due to the angle could not, and did not stop the car to take a look. His wife and daughter described it as an old Ford Station Wagon. They began laughing, assuming that it was a UFO and that the aliens inside had disguised it as a car without realising that cars don't fly. The whole thing sounded so farfetched to Pat that he did not believe them at the time.

They were astounded when they came across a article reporting that back in 1969 a lady and her daughter from Alice Springs, Australia had not only seen a UFO shaped like a car, but it too had looked like a Ford Station Wagon. Here was an article from the other side of the world speaking about a near identical sighting!

A woman claims she was cut off by two alien beings in a spaceship shaped like a Ford station wagon - before it took off surrounded by green, blue and red flames.
It was just one of the stories to come out after ABC morning show presenter Leon Compton opened up the airwaves to UFO believers.
Betty from Alice Springs said her close encounter occurred in 1969. She was driving 20km south of Aileron towards Alice Springs at 4am with her six year old daughter when they saw the vehicle "flying alongside us". "We saw these two figures inside this thing. It looked like a Ford station wagon, with the windows. It came in front of us really quickly."
Her daughter then said, "There's nothing to be afraid of."
"I said, 'Why did you say that?' She said, 'I don't know, it just came out of my mouth'.
"And as I was talking, the whole think took off like a shot out of a gun...and then there was all this green and blue and red flames or lights all around it."
"I'll never forget it."

INCIDENT ANALYSIS
The way in which Pat described the sighting to me means I do not have any questions over its authenticity. I feel quite sure that his wife and daughter really did see what appeared to be a flying car in the sky. However I am far from convinced that it was a UFO disguising itself as such.
It has been seen in many different cases that the ETs do have the ability to mask either their own appearance or the appearance of their craft. This is commonly referred to as a screen memory. However this would generally occur as part of a contact experience involving direct interaction between the ETs and the witness. It is unlikely that they would have projected such an image into the minds of Dianne and Emily (and presumably anyone else who happened to notice it). Also I find it extremely unlikely that an advanced ET species would make the mistake of disguising their craft as a land based vehicle, this is quite illogical.
However, considering the fact that there was another report describing a near identical UFO back in 1969, we should not put out of the question that it was a genuine craft, just one that happened to look very similar to a Ford Station Wagon. You may feel this sounds too ridiculous to believe, but if the case from Alice Springs is real then Dianne and Emily may have seen a similar object.
But there is also another possibility, one which sounds more probable. I feel that rather than observe a UFO, Pat's wife and daughter may have seen a novelty hot air balloon shaped like a car. Or perhaps it was a helium filled car shaped inflatable which had been used at a museum or celebration and had broken free from its tether and so was drifting across the sky. This seems a far more plausible explanation, considering the rarity of sightings of this type.
Out of interest I have had a look around the net to see what else I could find on flying car sightings. I came across an apparent floating car seen in Perth on Google Earth! For further details on this amusing story head on over to the following address:

For almost two years, the National UFO Reporting Center has attempted to call to the attention of the public thefact that frequent sightings of clusters of red, orange, and yellow "fireballs" are occurring, for which there appears to be no adequate explanation. The objects clearly are not aircraft, meteors, satellites, weather balloons, swamp gas...all objects that frequently are cited by UFO skeptics in attempt to explain the UFO phenomenon in pedestrian terms.
On the evening of Saturday, November 10th, 2012, NUFORC began to receive a "pulse" of reports of sightings of these peculiar "fireballs," and that trend appears to continue, as this text is being written.
In order to bring this information to the attention of the public as quickly as possible, we post below a sample of some of the reports that have been submitted to our Center over the last 24 hours. The event appears to us to be of sufficient importance and magnitude to warrant our posting the reports in their "raw" form. The reports are largely unedited, and appear in their original form, although we have attempted to confirm that each report indicates the correct times. The reports are in order of occurrence of the sightings, allowing for the three time zones in the U. S..
In particular, we would like to call the readers' attention to the report below from Castle Rock, Washington, submitted by a current airline pilot (ATP pilot's license), who encountered three of the orange objects on a remote stretch of highway in Washington State. The witness reported to us via telephone that the objects appeared so low that he thought they were going to land on the highway in front of his vehicle.
If anyone visiting our website has been witness to one of the events shown below, we would like to invite the person to submit a written report, using our Online Report Form. Also, we encourage witnesses to contact the local press in their area...radio, television, and newspaper offices...in order to report the sighting to them, and in attempt to achieve some publicity for the sighting. If other witnesses to the event are located, please have them submit a written report, as well....

I identifiable been supporting a greatest to a magnetic UFO gadget seen from the Milperra area of Sydney over the Bankstown area to try to pad down the date of his UFO gadget. He thinks it might identifiable occurred in either 1969 or 1970. My UFOIC blog site (see relations difficulty) describes stall of the 1969 "UFO hideaway" olden times in northern NSW. The greatest kid on Graeme Gilbert's radio 2 SM Vocalizations Look as if on Wednesday night January 17, 2007. That form involved one callers that might identifiable contributed an minute date in April 1970. This has yet to be valid. Further caller recollected the journal report that featured a photograph of the thought UFO landing site - next 3 anticlockwise double agent circles about three and short paces straddling. Alike magnetic was a caller named Fred who described a fine glare sighting from Swansea NSW from 1944!
