I was with my parents and we were going home. My mom was the one who saw it first and told us so we reversed and it took off. Something weird definitely not a plane. Kind of scary. It was a triangle shaped dark black with losts of lights right on top of a football field with football field lights on. I was freaking out but somewhat excited because I had never seen anything like it before. It took off going north bound and left pretty fast.

UFOlogists often go on and on about incidents such as Roswell because they seem to support theories of extraterrestrial life. However, it is likely that MOST UFO cases are not, in fact, of extraterrestrial origin. They are simply unknown aerial craft. To wit, cases like Kecksburg - with its ties to Nazi Germany's "Die Glocke" and the United States' "Operation Paperclip" - are far more compelling mysteries. Just how many UFO's were actually German, Japanese, and even Russian spy craft? And did they, as some claim, gain their inspirations from otherworldly vessels?"Die Glocke" or "The Bell" was reportedly born from the minds of Nazi scientists during World War II when the tide was turning against the once-almighty German forces who became desperate for a final solution. Much energy and money was expended on more and more outlandish (some would say crazy) research and expeditions, often involving the Third Reich's strange obsession with occultism and paranormal phenomena. Deep within an underground compound in Poland known as "Der Riese" (The Giant), the Nazis reportedly crafted a metallic, bell-shaped instrument that stood nearly 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide with odd markings along the lower rim. Within was a strange substance known as "Xerum 525" that glowed strangely violet when excited and gave off strong levels of radiation. Many of the scientists working on the project died either from radiation sickness or at the hands of SS officers bent of maintaining the projects secrecy.The Bell's purpose remains unclear. Some believe, the intense radiation was capable of manipulating time-space for the purposes of time/space travel or to produce anti-gravitational fields. Sadly the reason so much speculation surrounds the device - if authentic - is because its story is only known because of one man: Polish writer Igor Witkowski wrote about the device in "Prawda O Wunderwaffe", his little-known book published in 2000. He claimed to have seen secret documents compiled from the interrogation of SS General Jakob Sporrenberg. The story was picked up in the English-speaking realm by British author and journalist Nick Cook who wrote about it in his 2003 book "The Hunt for Zero Point". But, sadly, much of the facts are uncorroborated and outlandish claims of a design process using clairvoyants makes it hard to swallow - even factoring in Nazi eccentricities.Other factors, such as the purported test facility known as "The Henge" (proved to be the foundation of a cooling tower), were debunked in short order.However, that's not to say there are not still some strange facets to the tale. While the veracity of The Bell's existence may not be anything to bet one's life on, it is well-known that in the aftermath of World War II that German scientists were recruited by both the US and Soviet Union. One of these individuals, the Nazi scientist responsible for Germany's ground-breaking early rocket efforts (such as the V2), later worked his way high into the ranks of the US space program in the 1960's.Then on December 9, 1965 a fiery object was reported to have crashed to earth in the woods near Kecksburgh, PA. When local authorities arrived on scene, they were struck to find an acorn (or bell) shaped object about the size of a small car, circumscribed with strange markings at its base. Witnesses later testified that the army arrived, loaded the object onto a truck, ordered the civilians to clear the area, and then later disavowed any knowledge of the incident. Speculation abounded: UFO, Soviet satellite, meteor...While it is hard to say what actually happened (some astronomers dispute that the object seen over several states could have crashed in Pennsylvania), it is curious to note two things. First, the strong resemblance to The Bell (albeit such knowledge only arose in the year 2000, prior to Kecksburg). Secondly, the fact that a former Nazi scientist with ties to the Die Glocke era was heading up components of the US space program at the time. It might be possible that these early Nazi experiments had continued on into the space age as the US continued to seek the edge throughout the cold war. While in my gut I think "The Bell" is a total "ex post facto" construct, conveniently using the Kecksburg template to work backward to a secret Nazi invention, it could still be that this mystery has a better chance at resolution than Roswell ever will. If fabricated, it would only take the destruction of Witkowski's claims. After all, if he saw these transcripts then they must exist and could be tracked down. For him to claim only he saw them and they will never be seen again, is a sure sign that another work of UFO fiction has been penned for the eager to lap up thirstily. However, there remains the outside chance that, while still mired in more crap than a pig farmer, there exists some truth to this Nazi super weapon. Even if it turned out to be nothing more than a failed attempt at a satellite weapon, rocket, or flying bomb, it would have further proven that UFO's can often be explained by far more terrestrial means.

KLANG, SELANGOR: A rumour said an unidentified flying object (UFO) was spotted in Sri Andalas for three nights continuously.

As a result, some residents waited for the UFO Tuesday (16 March) and claimed that they saw an unidentified object that night.
According to the witnesses, they saw an UFO with blue lights circling around the sky for quite a long time.
The Li family from Taman Wira was the first who spotted the UFO. Subsequently, others claimed to have spotted the flying object on the following three nights.
When the news was spread, about 20 residents, equipped with telescopes and cameras, waited for it on Tuesday night.
An unidentified object was spotted in the sky around 8pm. However, it was too far away. Although the residents were able to see it, they failed to captured its image with their cameras.

Remember when it was just a conspiracy theory that the CIA wanted the Mafia to assassinate Fidel Castro? That was until the conspiracy became reality after the CIA released its own lurid documentation on the Mafia recruitment effort.
One day, maybe not too far in the future, we will look back at the conspiracies surrounding UFOs and find out that they too are revealed as realities. Of course, disclosure has been promised many times by those allegedly "in the know". Hell, the folks in Exopolitics predict Disclosure as imminent every chance they get, and then come up with the most ridiculous of excuses for why it is denied to the citizens of the world when their ill issued predictions go up in smoke.
But this article is not about true UFO Disclosure. It is about the strange bedfellows that Ufologists seem to keep in their alleged pursuit of truth. You see, when you climb high enough up the ladder of Ufology and are prominent in the field; the strangest of characters approach you with promises of "disclosure". Normally, the ruse goes something like this. Approach subject Ufologist and make claims that you are in the know. Then shower said Ufologist with feelings of "eliteness" by offering them an inside look at the truth. When they take the bait, deny them the information promised, but keep them on a string with promises of information that will slowly be revealed in good measure and time.
Now you are probably wondering, when I was the International Director of MUFON, did this ever happen to me? Actually it didn't, but then again I made it public knowledge that I would not accept inside sources who were not willing to go public with their identity and their claims. So I was not willing to play the game to begin with and those who refuse to dance are never asked to.
Speaking of strange relationships, in 2009, billionaire entrepeneur Robert Bigelow decided to hire MUFON to conduct UFO investigations on behalf of his new venture, BAASS, an alleged aerospace company interested in discovering and exploiting novel and cutting edge technologies that relate to space travel.
Well what is so unusual about that? Maybe it has to do with the following interesting facts:
* John Schuessler, MUFON Board Member and former International Director was offered a U.S. government security clearance allegedly related to his consulting work for Mr. Bigelow. Now whether John was actually given that clearance, I can't say for sure, but I was one of the people interviewed as part of his background investigation.
* Mr. Bigelow did not fund MUFON's work for BAASS, instead "sponsors" that Bigelow revealed to John Schuessler but not to the other MUFON Board Members put up the money.
* Mr. Bigelow invalidated his own legal contract with MUFON by refusing to abide by the original deal struck with MUFON and instead changed the terms mid-stream, something the MUFON Board of Directors acquiesced to despite my protests.
* During the project, MUFON provided both historical MUFON files as well as current MUFON case files (including witness information) to BAASS. To cover MUFON legally, the MUFON UFO reporting form was modified to collect the witness' permission to offer their sighting data to a third party, the only third party being BAASS.
* When I uncovered some very damaging information about the Skinwalker Ranch (also owned by Mr. Bigelow) and provided that information to the MUFON Board along with my doubts about the true agenda of the BAASS-MUFON relationship, the MUFON Board unethically bypassed me and communicated in secret with BAASS in an attempt to continue the project. When I found out about this unethical behavior, initiated by my former friend and current International Director Clifford Clift and MUFON Board member Jan Harzan (probably the next International Director after Cliff retires), I resigned immediately from the MUFON Board and the International Director position.
* Rather than reveal the truth of why I resigned to the MUFON membership, Cliff decided to whitewash the unfortunate events while he swept his broom around MUFON, portraying me as an inept leader who brought MUFON to financial ruin and presenting himself as the savior of the organization. His betrayal stung me to my very core, as I considered him a friend for fourteen years until he revealed who he truly was. At the 2010 MUFON Symposium he told the MUFON State Directors that I left MUFON because the "truth" I was seeking was not the same "truth" the MUFON Board of Directors sought.
So for the leading UFO organization in the world, whose mission statement is the scientific investigation of UFOs, what truth is Mr. Clift alluding to? Maybe it is the sad truth that without a wealthy benefactor behind MUFON, the organization is but an army of volunteers with no funding for their scientific investigation, and if staying within the good graces of the only willing benefactor means compromising ethics and the duties and obligations a non-profit organization has to its membership and to the public, then so be it. I suggest that the MUFON membership deserves more from their leadership.
In fact, every MUFON member should take Mr. Clift up on his promises of transparency and demand answers to the following questions which should be posed to the MUFON Board of Directors:
* Does John Schuessler currently have an active government security clearance and for what reason was it granted? What is John's current relationship to BAASS and Mr. Bigelow?
* Does MUFON still provide current UFO reports to BAASS? If not, then why is the 3rd party witness election still on MUFON's "Report a UFO" form on the MUFON web site?
* Is the MUFON Board of Directors willing to give an accurate history including publicly releasing all supporting documentation of the MUFON-BAASS legal contract that encompasses the entire project period?
* What is MUFON's current relationship to BAASS and Mr. Bigelow?
The MUFON Board of Directors may be in pursuit of their own truth, but the real truth has an odd way of surfacing even after many years, as the CIA-Mafia affair shows. How can those in the field of Ufology seek disclosure from outside if they are not willing to seek disclosure from within first? The choices made by the MUFON Board during the MUFON-BAASS project demands complete openness and transparency so that the conspiracy theory behind the MUFON-BAASS relationship is put to rest. MUFON's leadership should practice what it preaches and leave no details hidden if it wishes MUFON to retain any semblance of respectability in this field already filled with enough unanswered questions and shadowy characters and organizations. It is time for MUFON to sweep its own house clean.

I was sitting on my deck between 1830 and 1900. I looked to the northwest and saw the contrails of a jet going east. As I followed the jet, which was well over 10000 feet in altitude, and I noticed a bright, starlike light moving toward it moving southwest. I thought that there would be a mid air collision. I could make out the details of the jet, but the object was as bright as a star. It crossed behind the jets pAth and seemed to slow speed to almost a hover. It then moved very slow westerly and stopped, then the brightness faded to nothing. I tried to point it out to my wife, but she could not see it, as she is blind in one eye and has poor vision. I was not frightenned, just amazed.

I just flew back home from Toronto.(Boy, are my arms tired!) Pah-dum-pum!It was a whirlwind visit.I had received an email two weeks ago from a producer with Corus, the independent Canadian TV network. She wanted to know if I would be interested in being on a serious news program to be on a panel to talk about UFOs. I said sure, and then she gave me a call. She wanted to know, "Are you planning to be in Toronto next week?" In a word, no. She sounded disappointed, but that's showbiz.But it didn't end there. Talking with my wife about it, she suggested that we might be able to afford a trip to Toronto for me, and that while there I could meet with my publisher, visit friends, buy her a birthday present, etc. Naturally, I agreed. I went online, found a seat sale and booked the flight. I called the producer back and told her I could do it. Done.Then a few days later, I learned what the show really was about. The host, Arlene Bynon, an award-winning radio host, has her own TV series on iChannel, a cable all-news channel. The series, called "@issue" has been running for a while and tackles some heavy subjects as a rule. But apparently Bynon spoke with Steve Bassett of the Paradigm Research Group several weeks ago on radio, and was intrigued with the whole government UFO cover-up thing. So, she picked the topic: Aliens - Have they visited us? A group of notable scientists and researchers is presently petitioning Barack Obama's government to reveal information that confirms that Earth has been visited on numerous occasions by extra terrestrials. Corso also claimed that when the Americans pored over the crashed saucer, they were able to use the technology to develop things like lasers, fibre optics, Kevlar, transistors, etc.The trouble is, Corso said a lot of things in his book that were not true or were outright wrong. He had the definition of a laser wrong, for example. Let alone the fact that lasers were already theoretically understood by physicists long before Roswell. Einstein's work laid the foundation for lasers and there were physics papers about them in the 1920s. Light transmission within tubes was demonstrated in the 1920s too.Corso made some wild claims about UFOs in his book, strange enough that most serious ufologists distance themselves from it. Like, the USA was at war with the aliens and managed to reach a peace pact.Hellyer spoke to a former general in the USAF and asked him about Corso's UFO claims. He was told "every word is true... and more." Of course, Hellyer refuses to disclose the name of his informant, to protect him. 2/16/2007 (Karki, Latvia) - On 4th February a unidentified object but apparently a meteorite knock down indoors the collection in northern Latvia punching a ravine in the ice. On the incredibly night locals claims to see UFO [what can be explained by light phenomena accompanying the meteorite]. On 4th February at about 10 pm. an unidentified object knock down down to a collection placed in a population in the northern part of Latvia punching a ravine in the ice shed. This event coincided before supposed UFO sightings reported in the area.
Best information on the event emerged on 13th February in "Degpunkta" spread of Latvian Majesty Select but the incident was reported as an event from 12th February. In fact it took swell a week in.

It was the year before Neil Armstrong made his famous leap onto the lunar surface. Apollo space missions dominated the American consciousness. The television screen was filled with such shows as "Lost in Space, The Invaders" and the soon-to-be-canceled "Star Trek."
Almost on cue, what was described as a whirring saucer-shaped object with colored lights appeared over Redlands just before 7:30 p.m. Feb. 4.
Only this UFO sighting wasn't the tale of a single person on a lonely isolated road. This object was reportedly seen by as many as 200 residents in the north part of the city. The city's police switchboard was swamped with calls.
Witnesses said the hair on their arms stood up. Some felt "strange" or sick to their stomachs. Dogs barked wildly. Children reportedly cried and tried to hide, even some who didn't see the object. Even adults were frightened.
Some residents said they watched the craft for two to three minutes, others for just a few seconds. Finally, the craft zipped vertically into the sky and moved off, disappearing into the northwest. A short time later, a similar object was reported over Victorville, about 35 miles northwest of Redlands.
Beverly Sanderson, 79, didn't see or hear the unidentified object, but for a time, it became part of her late husband's life. Judson "Sandy" Sanderson was one of four University of Redlands professors who investigated the incident. Their work landed them on a Los Angeles television show and became part of the Congressional record in connection with the famous Blue Book Project, which investigated the UFO phenomenon.
The Inland Empire has had no shortage of UFO sightings over the years. Giant Rock, near Landers, is a well known site for UFO enthusiasts. In the past year, the Mutual UFO Network has recorded six sightings in Riverside and San Bernardino counties. In May, a Press-Enterprise reader sent in a detailed report of a sighting in the area between Lake Perris and Hemet, where a glowing craft spent 15 to 20 minutes flitting back and forth across the night sky.
Such things fascinated Sanderson's husband.
"He was always interested in UFOs," Beverly Sanderson said. "I'm not saying he was a believer, but I think he was much more open-minded than I was. The thing I'm sorry about was that he went to his death not seeing one."
He died in 2006. His wedding band hangs from a chain around Beverly's neck.
She said the UFO sighting drew significant attention during the nearly year in which it was investigated. Her husband, a math professor, along with geologist Philip Seff and physicist Reinhold Krantz, interviewed about 30 witnesses for the report and tried to use their expertise to determine such facts as the size and behavior of the object.
They estimated the object was about 50 feet in diameter and had hovered about 300 feet from the ground - too low to be detected by the nearest radar installation at March Air Force Base near Riverside. March officials said they picked up nothing unusual that evening.

John Brownfield, an art instructor at the university, also participated in the study. He came up with a composite drawing of what people said they saw.
"I'm convinced the people I talked to actually saw something," said Brownfield, 72, who is retired and still lives in Redlands.
He said he no longer has the original copy of his chalk illustration but remembers trying to throw witnesses off while he was making drawings based on their descriptions. They inevitably stuck to their individual stories, he said.
"There were a lot of inconsistencies," he said. "About the only thing I could come up with that seemed to be consistent was that it was a disk-shaped object with lights in a circular pattern."
The details, he said, "varied from person to person. Were they flashing? Yes. No. What color were they?"
Several people reported red, green and white lights. Others saw orange lights or flames.
"There were a lot of people who saw something," he said.
One of those was Gayle Wirz.
Wirz, 75, now lives in Colton. His close encounter was brief, but he still remembers hearing his Redlands neighbor yelling over the backyard fence to come outside that February evening.
"I ran out my backdoor to see this silver-colored round machine hovering overhead," said Wirz, 70, adding that it was spinning and making a whirring noise. "I don't' know how high it was. It hovered for half a minute or less. Just in a snap of your fingers, it went straight up and disappeared."
Wirz, now retired, taught history for many years at Redlands High School. Despite the widespread reports and the excitement the sightings turned up, he said neither he nor his neighbors discussed it much after that night.
"We talked about it a little bit," Wirz said, adding that he remains skeptical about any visitors from another planet.
"My only conclusion was it was probably a military experiment," he said. Whatever it was, "It was there and then it was just gone."
CONGRESSIONAL MENTION
Others reported seeing the object climb rapidly into the sky, but then descend once more before moving off to the northwest. In congressional testimony that same year, UFO expert and physicist James McDonald cited the Redlands incident as an example of an event seen by a large number of people but which drew little attention at the time.
"This case has not received any scientific attention beyond this investigation by Dr. Philip Seff and his colleagues," McDonald said. "It has not received public notoriety. This was, in fact, only reported in a short column in the local paper and not on the wires anywhere. That happens over and over again."
The late Jerry Pettis, who represented the region in Congress at the time, said people should pay attention to the incident.
"I might observe that Redlands is a rather conservative community," Pettis said during McDonald's appearance before a congressional committee. "When people in Redlands say they saw something, they saw something."
The high point for the Sanderson family, Beverly said, was visiting the NBC studios in Burbank for a taping of the "On Campus"program. Her two children, she said, who were young at the time, were excited that their father was going to be on television. After the show, the family walked down the hall and stood in the wings of another studio, watching the taping of "Laugh-In," a popular comedy show at the time.
As the years passed, Sanderson said her husband remained interested in the incident, but it often was referred to in a light vein.
"We would joke about it," she said.
Sandy, she said, was intrigued but never became a UFO fanatic.
"We used to go to Albuquerque for the balloon festival," Sanderson said, "but he was never interested in going to Roswell," a UFO mecca due to a reported crash landing of an alien craft in 1947.
"If they weren't landing on his front lawn," Sanderson said, "he wasn't really interested."

What made me urge towards looking out the window this night was a distinct whirring noise that my nephew and I had heard the previous night before. So when I looked out of the window, I noticed that there were orbs of lights(between 10-20)right above the ground in the woods. They were moving and rearranging themselves in a circular fashion. When I first noticed this(in combination with the noise) I didn't know what it was. I was just trying to understand why is something so low against the earth and what was it doing. Although, I heard the whirring noise all that I saw(at first) where the orbs of lights above the floor of the earth within the woods. No sooner than when I had came to in trying to comprehend what I was seeing, the orbs stopped rearranging themselves and formed(or locked into) a triangular pattern. As soon as this occurred, I heard an ascending noise of some type of craft from where the lights were showing and then a triangular-shaped three dimensional type craft appeared above the tree tops. The distinct detail of the craft was intricate as it was a darkish blue green color but it looked as if the detail was nothing that I would have expected for the average UFO craft to look like. I had so many mixed feelings, like why am I seeing this, is this real, is it an airplane. Then telling myself no, this is not a plane because a plane would not be so low to the ground in this area and especially not within the woods behind my house. While contemplating in my head-space about what had just appeared, the craft glided sideways in mid air and it was as if time had frozen for me to see all this happen. I followed the craft with my eyes until it disappeared and then I heard another sound and saw that there were still lights that were in the woods. Next thing I knew, another craft had ascended up the same way as the other one, same detail and structure. It was as if they were giving each other a significant amount of time between each other, it was so mathematically precise on how they appeared one at a time. After the second craft appeared, it followed right behind the same path as the first one. In my mind, this was not happening to me, but it was and it was very crystal clear as to what they were but what were they doing was my main question- they were so close. No sooner than the second one was gliding off into the atmosphere, I still noticed that there were still some lights in the same spot within the woods. This is when I realized that it was a third craft had to be- I had just seen two. However, prior to this craft ascending all the way up above the trees, the third craft ascended half way and then stopped. The orbs of lights that I had seen were attached to the craft. When the third craft stopped midway I saw it and it released these orbs of lights (don't know why or what it was for) into the woods and the lights disintegrated within the woods and upon the earth floor. After this, the craft ascended above the trees and then followed the path of the prior to crafts before it. I had seen not 1, not 2, but 3 official crafts no more than about 100 ft away from me from my window. It was no loss in sight within this experience, it was as if the universe wanted me to see these crafts and what they were doing. This could not have lasted no more than 5-7 minutes but it was so surreal as it was as if time had stopped, no crafts were flying (Although I do live by a heavily populated area for the RDU Airport)- the sky was clear. And as soon as the last craft was out of sight, I saw a small helicopter appear in the sky further in the distance. We are definitely not alone here and may have never been anyway. Interestingly enough, I decided to take a walk in the back of my yard and within the area of the woods where I had seen these crafts. What was very significant to me and another friend of mine was how much richer and greener and plush the grass was in the woods versus the anatomy of the grass in the rest of the yard. I don't know the reasoning and purpose, but there is definitely one in regards to such visits. One thing is for sure, I was not scared, but was filled with deep emotion of gratitude, thankfulness and honored because I can truly say and affirm that we are not alone. Perhaps my expectations for the 2009 book "The UFO Files: The Inside Story of Real-Life Sightings" were too high. Dr. David Clarke is one of the few UK academics to get involved in the UFO issue. He is a senior lecturer in Journalism at Sheffield Hallam University. His PhD is in English Cultural Tradition and Folklore from the University of Sheffield. He is one of the movers and shakers behind the effort to get the Ministry of Defense (MOD) in England to release its UFO files via the National Archives of the UK. The press in North America and elsewhere has made it sound as though the MOD was releasing TOP Secret UFO files. Technically this is false. One of the glaring problems with the book is the almost complete failure to make a distinction between material classified as Confidential or Secret, much of which has been released, and that material classified as TOP SECRET or TOP SECRET Code Word, most of which has not. In the USA the code word might be Ultra or Umbra. I can find no indication that Dr. Clarke has ever worked under security, for the government or in the military, which might account for this lapse.
I was once asked by the late Karl Pflock why I insisted the best UFO material would be at least TOP SECRET. I pointed out that when the National Security Agency (NSA-sometimes laughingly called No Such Agency or Never Says Anything) finally got around to releasing 160 UFO documents (all preceding 1980) from its files, they were all TOP Secret or TS plus and one could read only one or two sentences per page because white out was used very liberally to censor everything else. The excuse was that the redaction was used to cover information about sources and methods for intelligence gathering which is a legitimate justification. It hardly seems credible that 95% of the material applies to sources and methods as opposed to the information itself. It is not as though the Soviet Union was not aware during the cold war that the NSA was gathering all sorts of data about things in the sky. Furthermore when I finally, under Freedom of Information, obtained a number of TS CIA UFO documents (it took me 5 years), only a few were released and most were very heavily redacted with black ink. They, too, were TOP Secret code word. Some pages had only 8 trivial words that could be read. One has "Deny in Toto" at the top. Couldn't even find 8 words to declassify!
The distinction between TOP SECRET and Secret seems to have escaped Dr. Clarke. Of course TS material cannot be referenced in documents of lower classification. A good example of the importance of the distinction is the comment made by General Nathan F. Twining (then head of the Air Materiel Command) about UFOs in his famous memo of Sept. 23, 1947, classified only Secret. He noted "The lack of Physical Evidence in the shape of crash recovered exhibits which would undeniably prove the existence of these objects". Some, including Clarke, interpret this as meaning that there was no crash of a flying saucer at Roswell. The fact is that there is every indication such information would have been Top Secret and could not have been referenced by Twining in a merely Secret memo. Clarke also never mentions the widely quoted statement by Wilbert Smith in charge of the Canadian UFO research effort that UFOs were the most classified subject in the USA even more so than the H-Bomb.
Another serious problem is the failure to even mention some of the most important large scale scientific studies of UFOs. Clarke mentions USAF Project Blue Book, but not Blue Book Reports 1 through 12 or, of much greater importance, Project Blue Book Special Report No. 14(Ref.1). After all it was unclassified, had more than 240 charts, tables, graphs and maps. Each of more than 3200 UFO reports was eventually categorized as aircraft, balloon, astronomical, psychological aberration, insufficient information, or the only ones we are really interested in, UNKNOWN. Each report was evaluated as to quality. It was found that the better the quality of the sighting the more likely to be listed as an UNKNOWN and the less likely to be listed as Insufficient Information. There was a statistical cross comparison (Chi squared analysis) between KNOWNS and UNKNOWNS showing on the basis of 6 different observables such as apparent size, color, speed, duration of observation, etc that the probability that the UNKNONS were just missed knowns was less than 1%. A full 21.5% were listed as UNKNOWNS completely separate from the 9.3% listed as "Insufficient Information". The secretary of the USAF lied about these data. Yet in several instances Clarke quotes various reports indicating that although there were always cases that couldn't be identified, it was just because there was insufficient information.. Certainly for the UFO studies in the US this simply wasn't true and no evidence other than proclamation was provided to support this claim in the UK. In a typical example in a report to the Secretary of State for the RAF "46 reports remained unexplained but" these simply lacked information vital to their explanation". It was also stated "there was nothing in any of them to suggest that the incidents they relate are any different in nature to those mentioned in the reports that have been explained.' The reader can see why I mention the Chi Square statistical comparison from BBSR 14.
It is hard to believe that there is also no reference to the July 29,1968, Congressional Symposium on UFOs. Held in Washington DC and Sponsored by the US. House of Representatives Committee on Science and Aeronautics, twelve scientists provided either written or oral testimony all of which was included in Reference 2, having 247 pages. I was the only scientist of the 12 not having a PhD. Some of the employers of the 12 included such universities as Harvard, Cornell, Stanford, University of California at Berkeley, Northwestern, There was also Westinghouse Astronuclear Laboratory and General Dynamics, Fort Worth. Of particular importance was the presentation by Dr. James E. McDonald, Professor of Physics at the University of Arizona. His 71 page contribution (Ref.3 ) presents very impressive data from 41 separate cases which he had investigated in depth. These included multiple witness radar visual cases such as the hour-long RB-47 case of July 17,1957, which was also in an article in a scientific journal. There was also a paper by Astronomer Dr. J. Allen Hynek, Scientific Consultant to Project Blue Book for over 20 years. Clarke mentions Hynek 3 times, but nowhere mentions his book "The UFO Experience"(Ref.4) which has more than 70 unexplained cases. Clarke does mention the Condon Report,(5) but wrongly claims that its purpose was to review Blue Book Cases. They did their own investigations of other cases. He notes the approval from the National Academy of Science, but doesn't mention that the NAS had done no investigations or that a special UFO subcommittee of the world's largest group of Space Scientists, The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, found that on the basis of the data in the report one could come to the opposite conclusions from Condon's(6). Any phenomenon with 30% unexplained is worthy of further investigation, they noted.
Clarke mentions the Betty and Barney Hill case and John Fuller's 1966 book "The Interrupted Journey"(7). However, he, while mentioning Boston Psychiatrist Dr. Benjamin Simon, doesn't mention that Simon had treated literally thousands of WW II veterans for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. Nor does he mention that Betty was a Social Worker and a Supervisor in the Welfare Department of the State of New Hampshire and that Barney was on the Governor's Civil Rights Commission. They did not seek publicity and had far more to lose than to gain. He also likens the experience to Betty's Dreams. I was frankly quite surprised the he made no reference to the 2007 book "Captured! The Betty and Barney Hill UFO Experience" Ref.8,and Kathleen Marden's very important comparative analysis of the dreams vs what came out under hypnosis. Clarke says they had a tour of the spacecraft which is simply untrue. He doesn't mention the Star map work. He repeats some silly statements by Royal astronomer Martin Rees about the unlikelihood of two civilizations being close enough to be in contact.. Naturally not even a suggestion of colonization or the feasibility of interstellar travel is noted. Distances are noted as "vast". Certainly the 2+ million light years to Andromeda is vast compared to 39.3 to Zeta Reticuli.
Clarke to his credit was the one most responsible for getting the formerly Classified Condign Report finally released five years after its completion and is reasonably critical of its findings. The author's name still hasn't been released. A particularly questionable notion related to the conclusion that major causes of UFO reports were various Plasma Phenomena. There is no doubt that much of the universe consists of plasmas such as the ionosphere, the Solar Corona, etc. However, the author seemed to be totally unaware of the work done on the question of Plasmas and UFOs by Jim McDonald whose specialty was atmospheric physics and who had shown that Philip Klass' earlier plasma explanations could not be justified from a physics viewpoint. I also discussed plasmas and UFOs in my congressional testimony.A particularly striking omission in the report is any mention of the October 20, 1969, memo by Air Force General Carroll Bolender which resulted in the closure of project Blue Book. It included these two statements "Reports of UFO s which could affect national security are made in accordance with JANAP 146 or Air Force Manual 55-11 and are not part of the Blue Book System... As already stated reports of UFOs which could affect national security would continue to be handled through the standard Air Force Procedures established for this purpose". I suspect that the situation is similar to that in many countries. The national security related cases are handled outside the publicly ACCESSIBLE channels.
The book does have some interesting UK UFO cases, but at only 160 pages SIMPLY doesn't do justice to the subject.
