For the Western media, Africa is always a mere footnote, a continent that is generally forgotten in matters of espionage and electronic surveillance. However, as leaders in Europe, Latin America, and Asia bemoan the surveillance activities of the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA), Africa has also been a victim of overarching communications surveillance by the United States...
Although Africa trailed the rest of the world in adopting enhanced information technology, it has not been ignored by the signals intelligence (SIGINT) agencies of the Five Eyes countries (United States, United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand) or one of the Nine Eyes SIGINT alliance nations, France. Satellite communications, undersea fiber optic cables, cell phones, and Internet are all subjected to the same level of surveillance by NSA, Britain's Government Communications Headquarters (GCHQ), the Communications Security Establishment Canada (CSEC), and Australia's Defense Signals Directorate as is directed against targeted countries in Latin America, Asia, the Middle East, and eastern Europe.
In fact, African nations have long worried about the susceptibility of their Internet communications to eavesdropping by the West. In an article written by this author for the May 1, 1990, edition of the computer magazine Datamation, titled it was pointed out that the African countries taking a lead over twenty years ago to protect their sensitive data from surveillance included South Africa, Ghana, Egypt, Senegal, Tanzania, Botswana, Guinea, Ivory Coast, Benin, and Namibia. The classified NSA documents revealed by whistleblower Edward Snowden point out how Africa's communications are under constant surveillance by NSA's and its allies SIGINT agencies. One TOP SECRET STRAP 1 document from GCHQ states that all countries' diplomatic services use smart phone and that these are favored targets for surveillance. Thousands of e-mail addresses and cellular phone numbers or of African government officials are stored in massive worldwide phone book and e-mail directories. NSA databases containing and information are used by eavesdroppers to focus in on certain conversations in Africa and abroad. These metadata capture and storage repositories have cover names such as FAIRVIEW, BLARNEY, STORMBREW, OAKSTAR, and PINWALE. One NSA global email and phone call interception analysis program called BOUNDLESSINFORMANT tracks the monitoring of digital telephony (dial number recognition or DNR) and email and other digital textual communications (digital network intelligence or DNI). A generated by BOUNDLESSINFORMANT indicated that the number one target for surveillance in Africa was Egypt, followed by Kenya, Libya, Somalia, Algeria, Uganda, Tanzania, and Sudan. In 2009, NSA's databases contained the email addresses, phone numbers, and other personal information for 117 customers of Globalsom, an Internet service provider in Mogadishu. The names included senior Somali government officials, a senior UN officer resident in Mogadishu, and an official of World Vision, a non-governmental organization (NGO) which has often been linked to CIA covert activities. A number of informed observers have speculated that Snowden, who worked for the CIA before switching over to the NSA, may have been prompted by nameless officials in Langley, Virginia to release to the world the nature of NSA's surveillance. NSA's omniscient surveillance capabilities may have threatened to expose covert CIA agents abroad to a competitive and more powerful intelligence agency so an effort was made, through Snowden, to clip the wings of an NSA that was increasing its influence at the expense of the CIA. There has always been a rivalry between U.S. intelligence agencies in Africa. Long the haunt of the CIA, especially during the Cold War, there has been resentment in the corridors of the CIA in Langley over the increasing activities of NSA in Africa. In the 1950s and 60s, NSA's operations in Africa were largely confined to three signals intelligence support bases: Naval Security Group Activity Kenitra (formerly Port Lyautey); the Army Security Agency's intercept station at Kagnew station, Asmara, in what was then Ethiopia; and airborne SIGINT support at Wheelus U.S. Air Force base, outside of Tripoli, Libya. NSA made no secret of its presence at the three bases and it was the fear of the new revolutionary government of Zanzibar in 1964 that prompted it to expel the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) Project Mercury tracking station from the island nation because of the presence of Bendix Corporation technical representatives. Bendix, in addition to supporting NASA, also provided technical support for NSA bases circling the Soviet Union. After the closure of the three African bases and the creation of the joint NSA-CIA Special Collection Service (SCS), NSA SIGINT outposts, operating under diplomatic cover, were set up in U.S. embassies, including those in Nairobi, Lagos, Kinshasa, Cairo, Dakar, Addis Ababa, Monrovia, Abidjan, and Lusaka. For the past twenty years, NSA has increased its mobile intercept operations in Africa. In particular, during the first Rwandan invasion of the Democratic Republic of Congo (then Zaire) in the 1990s, the NSA maintained a communications intercept station in Fort Portal, Uganda, which intercepted military and government communications in Zaire. Some of the intelligence derived from the SIGINT was shared with the armed forces of Rwandan leader Paul Kagame, a client dictator of the United States whose invasion of Zaire led to the ouster of long-time American ally Mobutu Sese Seko. During the Cold War, NSA's ground operations in Africa were largely confined to an intelligence-sharing relationship with apartheid South Africa. NSA received South African SIGINT, mostly intercepts of naval and merchant ships sailing around the Cape of Good Hope. NSA covertly supported South Africa's Silvermine intelligence center, located inside a mountain under Costanzia Ridge, near Cape Town. NSA kept its relationship with Silvermine under complete wraps, owing to international sanctions against South Africa at the time. Silvermine has fallen into general disrepair with thieves now stealing copper from the base's antenna field. However, with the mushrooming of drone bases throughout Africa there has come a renewed NSA SIGINT presence on the continent that provides both technical support to drones fitted with signals intelligence-gathering payloads and on-site analysis of the communications intercepted by the remotely-controlled intelligence platforms. The largest permanent NSA presence in Africa is at Camp Lemonnier in Djibouti, where NSA analysts monitor communications intercepted by drones and manned surveillance aircraft and directly from intercept taps on foreign satellites and undersea cables. Pilatus PC-12 surveillance aircraft, complete with SIGINT packages, are flown out of Entebbe, Uganda as part of Operation TUSKER SAND. NSA military and civilian personnel are also assigned to U.S. surveillance installations at Ouagadougou International Airport in Burkina Faso and Diori Hamani International Airport in Niamey, Niger. The base in Ouagadougou is part of Operation CREEK SAND that includes the use of SIGINT packages installed on Pilatus PC-12 surveillance aircraft. NSA mobile units, such as the one that was set up in a residential home in Fort Portal, routinely operate out of U.S. forward bases in Obo and Djema, Central African Republic, and Kisangani and Dungu in the Democratic Republic of Congo. SIGINT-enabled drones also fly from U.S. bases at Arba Minch, Ethiopia and Victoria Airport on the island of Mal'e, Seychelles. NSA personnel have also been assigned to Camp Gilbert, Dire Dawa, Ethiopia; Camp Simba, Manda Bay, Kenya; Mombasa, Kenya; Nzara, South Sudan; Leopold Senghor International Airport, Dakar, Senegal; and Boul'e International Airport, Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Small NSA listening facilities have also been located at the Voice of America transmitter stations on Sao Tom'e, one of the two islands that comprise the nation of Sao Tom'e and Principe, and Mopeng Hill, Botswana. In fact, NSA personnel are found in so many exotic locations in Africa and elsewhere in the world, one NSA briefing slide released by Snowden, titled "Know your cover legend," instructs NSA personnel on covert assignment abroad to "sanitize personal effects" and bars them from sending home any postcards or buying local souvenirs. In reality, the fastest means of communications in Africa remains the the word of mouth alerts that travel from town to town and village to village warning the local residents that there are Americans in their midst. It is the one means of communications NSA cannot automatically tap unless NSA's agents overhear conversations and understand obscure African dialects. Somali insurgents have stymied NSA eavesdroppers by using coded smoke signals from networks of burning 55-gallon drums to warn of approaching U.S., Kenyan, Ethiopian, and other foreign troops. NSA proclaims its prowess at eavesdropping on any communication anywhere in the world. Africa has shown the boastful U.S. intelligence agency that the only thing NSA excels at is the art of exaggeration. ..My family and I are still on our summer's vacation however I felt it important to report the fact that I am being sent reports from those living along the South Shore of Long Island concerning strange lights, objects and Orbs. I was sent an email by a man who reported yet another strange sighting of an unidentified object along the South Shore of Long Island New York that I felt should be shared right away.
Obviously Long Island once again seems to be a hot bed for this type of activity. I think that Long Island is a small land mass hanging out in to the Atlantic Ocean that is a connecting point from the open sea to land which makes it a vantage point to see the coming and going of what may be coming out of or flying over the great Atlantic Ocean. As far back as I can remember UFO sightings have been reported by Long Islanders. Many strange lights and objects have been seen along the South Shore of the Island facing the Atlantic Ocean.
The most recent report was sent to me a few days ago during the first week of August. It came from a young man who is located around the mid-point of Long Island close to the Islip Township.The man wrote and told me this sighting of an Orb was seen by a group of men (about 6), who were standing in an open area talking. It was night time and they were in a parking lot type area surrounded by a small tree line.
Suddenly, the group of men noticed a very bright large Orb floating above them. It was silent and hovering. It would move above the tree line about 30 feet above telephone pole height. The strange Orb hovered and maneuvered above them standing in the lot and the trees lining the lot. It seemed to watch them before it simply disappeared right in front of their eyes. It was there and bam, it was gone.
The group of men did not know nor had they ever seen anything like this Orb before. They are not people who are interested in things of this nature and were shaken by being invaded by the strange object. The men tried to figure out what they had just seen and tried hard to reason out what it could have been. A few wanted to chalk it up to a balloon or toy controlled by someone playing a trick, others had similar ideas, all of them realized they had just witnessed something they had never seen before. Three of the men felt they had seen something unknown which is why they wrote to me and explained what they had witnessed. The group of men where shaken and frightened by the odd event.
I think this group of men is now among the millions of other people who have had an encounter with the unexplained. Orbs that are being reported at an alarming rate all over the world. At this point I remain confused and concerned about the Orb dilemma. I experienced firsthand an experience with a Red Orb during the 1970's that had a huge impact on my life. I understand Orbs can be harmful and dangerous and try to warn those seeing them to stay away from them if they see one.
If you do find an Orb watching you immediately seek safety and other people to protect from being taken or harmed by this strange object. I do believe they are objects that watch us and collect data about us however I truly believe they are capable of more. I think the group of men reporting this recent Orb sighting is lucky it left them quickly. I think it was sizing up the idea of taking or somehow making contact with them. The fact there was five or six of them along with the fact they were located near other human activity and lights at the time saved them from this fate.
Please be aware people are seeing and dealing with strange things daily. It is only a matter of time that one day you may find you are the next one to be alone looking into the cold dark eyes of the unknown. Put down your cell phones and hand held gadgets that control your attention and maybe purposely have been placed in societies hands to make us vulnerable, distracted and controlled by things we could never dream of. Who knows what lurks out there. Pay attention to what goes on around you as you never know when it will be your turn! Do not be the one who walked into the trap and finds they are alone and lost to the unknown.

My spouse has an opportunity to work in Europe for the next two months. It is something we are thrilled about as it will extend our summer's vacation to the beginning of November
I will be spending my time visiting the different places we are heading to and hopefully finding new and interesting things to write about.
I will not be posting daily on my blog but will continue to post new articles that I plan to write during my time away.
We have had a very interesting summer and hope our travels will continue to be a wonderful adventure for us.

The content of the displays also made me extremely uncomfortable. As we wandered around the house we made our way out to this huge tent they had erected on the back of the house. In this tent were food, a bar, chairs and a stage they had built. The stage had a curtain over it with a sign stating the show would begin at midnight. I tried to relax and enjoy the party but frankly this insane display of detailed aliens and UFOs made me uneasy at first and then very nervous. The aliens were made of some kind of rubber. They were grayish and looked very real. It must have taken him months if not longer to create all of it. His wife later told me he had been obsessed with this party for over a year and spent hours every night and weekends building it all in their garage and attic. her. A table-like slab that seemed to float was in the corner of the display. It had a human-like full-size doll on it with an alien leaning over it. The alien held a tool in its hand and was waving it over the doll. The display had flashing lights and sound effects and everything in it moved. It was the most incredible thing I had ever seen and it frightened the hell out of me. The people at the party were thunder-struck by this scene and yelled and clapped and laughed. They loved it. My ex-husband stood there looking very pleased. I walked over and just stared at him. He turned and stared back. I then said to him in extreme seriousness, "You remember this, don't you, from that night?" Without blinking an eye or giving it much thought, he looked right at me and said, "Yeah, I think so." He then turned and walked back to his party. I thought I was going to cry, vomit, or faint. I found my husband and told him I had a stomachache and wanted to go home.
On the drive home I told my husband about the red orb I had seen so many years ago and what had happened at the party and how upset it made me. Like all good husbands he reassured me my ex was just a bit off and that I shouldn't take it to heart. I could tell, like a wife can, that my husband was concerned and found it all very odd as well. I think something happened that night years ago when that red orb sat in that old pine tree. I think it changed my ex-husband for the rest of his life. I also think I subconsciously block all memory of it. Maybe his experience that night was worse than mine. I tried a few times to bring it up to him. He just tells me he is not sure what happened that night and will not discuss it past that. I am very fearful of it all since that Halloween party and so I just let the subject stay, as it is, unspoken.
I never take the stance that unexplained events people sometimes talk about are ridiculous or untrue. I lived a few experiences in this life I cannot explain. I simply refrain from letting them become the center focus of my life and I accept that we know far less than we think we do. I accept there are many things we do not yet understand. I also try to stay aware of my surroundings. I am a firm believer that it is best to walk away from that which one does not understand rather than to walk toward it. The unknown is just that--the unknown. My motto will always be to walk softly and carry that big stick.

"This letter concerns a preliminary recommendation to ATIC on future methods of handling the problem of unidentified aerial objects. This recommendation is based on our experience to date in analyzing several thousands of reports on this subject."
So begins a memorandum that could prove once and for all that the U.S. Government has been covering up what it knows about UFOs for a very, very long time. Or not.
The memorandum was sent to a Mr. Gxxx from a Mr. Cxxxx, and is noteworthy in that it was making a recommendation to the Air Technical Intelligence Center, or ATIC, an office of the U.S. Air Force that was housed at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, OH. This is noteworthy because ATIC oversaw the activities of Project Blue Book, the Air Force's official study of the UFO phenomenon and long-time employer of Dr. J. Allen Hynek.
That's what makes the memorandum noteworthy. What makes it a potential mountain of political dynamite is that it was dated January 9th, 1953.
Why is that a big deal? Project Blue Book was begun in 1952. It superseded Project Grudge, which was started in 1948. Project Grudge superseded Project Sign, which was begun in 1947, in direct response to the first wave of modern UFO sightings to sweep across the United States in the summer of that year. By the time the Air Force pulled the plug on Blue Book in December, 1969, the Air Force had investigated 12,618 reported UFO sightings. And yet, according to this memorandum, a completely different, unknown government group had already investigated "several thousands of reports on this subject" by the beginning of 1953!

What was Project Stork "(CIA)"? Which cases were Project Stork "(CIA)" investigating? Why did Project Stork "(CIA)" come out of hiding to issue this memorandum to ATIC? The last question is easy. In 1952 there was a huge flap of UFO sightings over Washington, D.C., our nation's capital. UFO SIGHTING IN PORT ST. LUCIE, FLORIDA ON AUGUST 31ST 2013 - THIRD NIGHT IN A ROW GOLDEN-ORANGE GLOWING ORB IN OUR AREA
After watching a glowing orb in our near, low sky the previous two nights (August 29th & August 30th between 9 and 9:30 PM - Read previous reports,) my Husband and I were prepared on this night (August 31st) to be outside well before the time of the prior sightings. We had our tripods and cameras. It was a cloudy night, so we were uncertain. The Children were waiting with us, as they had seen it the previous night. At 9:05 from our back patio, which faces West, coming in from the SouthWest was a star-like point of yellowish light. As it was moving North East, we realized it was not a star. After about 5 minutes of moving in our direction, It stopped in the same spot that it had the past 2 nights, West from us, about 3 miles away. There it sat for 10 minutes, hovering and moving slightly. It seemed to get bright and dim, but this may be because of clouds or its distance. About ten minutes of hovering above the tree line, it seemed to dim and descended below the tree line. I managed to get photographs with a long camera lens and a tripod. (Most of the photos I got captured motion and light trails, so I have omitted those, but saved them.) My Husband had his video recorder on a tripod and captured video, as well....which gives a good indication of our vantage point. (We are unable to successfully upload the video but if MUFON would like to see it, please contact us via email.) It was not doing it's obvious ascending/descending, zig-zagging as the previous nights but was agile and moving in a pattern on approach (5 minutes) and once hovering it stayed in place low on the horizon (10 minutes.) Silence, again. There is no way this could be a helicopter, airplane, model aircraft, Chinese Lantern, Hot Air Balloon, Star, Missile, Flare, et al. It's movements, agility, changes in flight pattern and general color combined with no blinking lights on it, really leaves us feeling that this is something we have never seen. And this happened three nights in a row. The first two nights, we came outside around the same time and it was already positioned, hovering in the West, above the tree line at a distance of estimated 3 miles. (Read previous reports.) Last night, we watched it approach from the South West to the Western point of the previous nights. We will be outside and ready at 8:45 tonight (September 1, 2013) to see if it comes back. We hope it does, but what could it mean? *One other odd thing. There were no stars out because it had been raining and was cloudy, but clearing up. In many of the photos during the period of time it was hovering, tiny points of light (like stars) in the thousands were all around in the sky around this thing, not visible to the naked eye. Zoom in on the photos, to see what I mean. I do not attribute them to artifacts in the camera or pixelation as they do not appear in any of the earlier photographs. They are of less concern than the glowing orb visiting our area three nights in a row, but interesting, just the same.

One observation I've made while journeying through UFO Land is that there are a handful of active, yet bored, anti-UFOists. Yes, they're skeptics, but it's more than that. Some are ex-UFO investigators/researchers themselves. Years ago, they started UFO newsletters, magazines, journals, groups, meetings, presentations. They investigated local UFO sightings. They researched UFO history and became familiar with the UFO cases and participants. Others never were so involved; that was, and is, beneath them. This never stopped them from commenting on UFOs, even writing books about them. While there are differences between these two; the skeptic who sneers at it all, and the ex-wonderer/wanderer who "now" sneers at it all, they have some things in common. And that's boredom, with a capitol B. Bored, bored bored. They are so damn bored.
They're so bored, they have to write about how bored they are, and tell others about how bored they are. They have the need to express their ennui with UFOlogy to others; but that's not enough, they have to try and get others to come over ot their side. They have no qualms about being insulting to pro-UFOers. They think it's okay for some reason; probably because, aside from being bored, they're arrogant. They're arrogant, because in their mind, they're right. Their rightness gives them the right (heh) to be obnoxious towards others they deem unworthy. Those that haven't yet turned toward the UFO side are ripe for picking; aiming their pleas at the neutral, the undecided, the newbie, the Bored ask them to come on over and join them in their anti-UFO, fanatical rationalism.
These bored types respond to anything UFO-ish with a big yawn. They often qualify their bored responses with the typical refrain of many a skeptic: "oh, I wish it would be true. I wish we'd all get the answer that a new study, a new case, a new witness, will tell us what UFOs are, and why, and from where they've come."
Even if they truly did wish that, one wonders why they're wasting so much time with telling us how bored they are.
